Jose attempted to contact Dave that night, but the waiter who received his call said that their master had not returned.
He recalled that Dave was researching about William Bannet because he suspected the title of Sir to be worn by the man.
Could Dave have found something?
The door is knocked from the outside. A brunette maid arrives, telling her that Marco is waiting for her in the study. Jose orders the waiter to leave, then he hides his clipping book carefully. He placed the book under a secret window that he made by breaking a wooden floor under the table. After he was sure everything was safe, he went outside the room to see his uncle.
Jose immediately walked into the study without knocking on the door, causing Marco to raise his face in annoyance behind his semicircular teak table.
“What decency is gone from your head?” The old man observed Jose as a whole with a critical gaze.
“Courtesy is not in the head, Uncle,” says Jose tangkas. “Again, Uncle himself called me here, it would have been a welcome speech. I don't have to knock on the door anymore.”
At first he thought he would only meet Marco, or at a minimum, and Rolan in the study. It turned out that even his father, Edgar, had also placed himself there, sitting beside Rolan.
The man combed his curly black hair with his fingers, then waved casually at his youngest son. “Come out there, knock on the door first. If allowed, just log in.”
Jose smiled a thin smile. He had just walked back towards the door when Rolan raised his hand quickly.
“Leave it. If he steps outside, I guarantee Jose will even run away!”
“This uncle is psychic, yes?” Jose laughs.
“So?” Edgar stroked his jaw slowly, then gave a wide grin and pointed at the seat opposite him. “Sit there, Jose, I don't let you run away or do any other disrespect.”
Jose sat obediently. After all he was curious as to what they were all gathered in this place for. Usually it is only called by Marco to be lectured or scolded. But the situation lately seems to be changing, there are many different things that make it so dizzy himself to think about what really happened.
“You've heard that Jacob is coming home, right?” Edgar asked. “Rolan told you?”
Jose nodded, noticing that three cups of tea and a set of biscuits were on the table. Things that made him suspicious. He looked at the elders in the room one by one, trying to trace the hidden intent behind this summoning.
“What's up?” he gave up guessing. “You called me to talk about Brother?”
“You don't look scared, Jose,” Marco said softly.
“Why should I be afraid?” the young man was astonished.
“You saw Higgins before he died. You heard the noisy horses give the omen. You see the creature, not once but up to three times,”, said Rolan while noting something on his little notebook on his knees. His eyes glanced at the jelly from behind the dark brown eyelashes. “The third one even had time to chase you in the forest. Ordinary people will be traumatized like two of Renata's ladies. But you don't look affected.”
Jose frowned, beginning to understand which direction this conversation was going. Rolan must have told Edgar and Marco about what he saw in southern Bjork. They may be surprised to see it is still agile pacing and not so petrified like Linda. Jose has to admit, he was scared. So scared. But he did not feel that what he saw or experienced was terrible enough that his soul had to be traumatized. For him it's not an extraordinary thing.
“He does not carry knives, firearms, or anything like that,” he said as he rubbed his arms restlessly. Talking about the creatures he saw still made Jose feel uncomfortable. The figure seems to appear at any time because it is thought. “Maybe because of that, that's why I'm not too shocked. I mean, he's just sniffing around and stooping. Not something very terrible.”
“Then,” says Marco, making everyone's attention on him, “Then, you will definitely not be surprised to see this report.”
“What report?” Jose was interested.
The report contains testimonies of people who have seen a black ghost, or feel they have seen it. There were also reports of police patrols on the day Nolan came.
Two policemen who happened to pass by Argent's house testified that they saw a strange figure, but they thought it was just an illusion because the figure was soon lost.
Their picture of the figure is diverse, but has similarities.
Blacker. Almost like a liquid. Sniffed. Disappear quickly.
“How?” Rolan patted Jose's shoulder, making the young man jump in shock.
The files are put back on the table. Four people surrounded the curve table with tense faces.
“One thing is for sure,” whispered Jose, trying to find the clarity of the sound. It felt like I hadn't spoken in years. He turned to Marco, then gave a soft bobble as he said, “That's not Charles Hastings' man.”
Marco returned his gaze in silence for a few seconds, then curtailed a slanted smile. “If it's about that, we don't know for sure, Jose.”
“Uncle, he can't be human!” Jose hissed impatiently. “He appeared from the air! Why would Baron Hastings perform such a magical demonstration?”
"Terror" Marco said. "I want to open Bjork, build the South. But he was strongly opposed. With the advent of this terror, development cannot be carried out. People are scared out."
Jose feels like he wants to jerk his feet so upset. The thing he hated most about Marco was the stubbornness of the man.
“Alright,” Jose finally. “Look him to Baron Hastings or something, it won't have too much effect, will it?”
“Of course affects a lot!” Rolan said astonished. His brown eyes were wide. “What we do next, every step of our way, is of course influenced by factors about who our opponents are. If he's not human, things are obviously different.”
Marco grunting. “And I put a doctor in the discussion because I expect scientific input.”
“Come on, the case alone is unscientific! What is scientific of brutal exsanguination?”
“You sure you want to involve Jose in this?” Edgar interrupts, breaking the chain of the debate that was just about to start between the two men there.
The so-called one was concentrating on something else at the time, and soon his consciousness was drawn back to the present.
Marco shakes firmly. “I don't actually want to, but he saw the ghost once again.”
Jose glanced sharply at Rolan, who gave him an innocent grin.
