Maria goes down to see Renata, but Nolan crosses paths with her. This time the girl was no longer wearing a dress, perhaps already bored. Someone lent him a shirt and trousers. His appearance now resembled that of a servant boy.
"Where are you going?" maria's reprimand was quick as soon as Nolan passed her. He felt that the girl must have wanted to go to the east wing.
"She said she vomited blood and her head leaked?" Nolan stopped beside Maria. Face's worried. "He's dead?"
"Hush! Who's dead?!" Maria glared fiercely, knowing who Nolan meant. He put one hand on the staircase while the other had blocked Nolan. "If you mean Jose, he's fine. His head didn't leak and I swear I'll slap you if you're reckless about dying again!"
Nolan jerked his arm loose. "Thank God!" he said, but with a look of annoyance. "Thank you for the info, I want to see for myself!"
"He's resting!" Maria pulled back Nolan's arm in agitation, stopping her steps. "Don't bother him! I've already banned it!"
"What right do you have against me?" Nolan again managed to pull off the stranglehold Maria. His eyes shone in anger, offended by being dragged around. "You're what? Her mom? His wife? You're also a guest here, so don't be so stupid!"
Maria felt a cold rage bubbling within her, touching the crown. "I'm Maria Garnet—"
"And I'm Nolan from the South, then why?!" cut Nolan ferociously, feeling the childish satisfaction of successfully using that name. "You think you're the only one who can pronounce your name in that tone?" He went up one step and turned completely to face Mary. Now they are the same height. He stared at Mary's blue eyes with a defiant look. "Listen Miss Garnet, stop pulling me. I could have accidentally punched you in the face so it wouldn't be pretty anymore if you kept gnawing my arm. And if that happens, you can be sure I won't be blamed here."
"And why is that?" Mary looked suspiciously. His heart immediately broke the fog.
What makes this boy so proud? God, don't tell me he has a right to do that because Jose gave it to him. Don't let Uncle Marco match them. Uncle Marco is the one who always viciously retaliates against others. Is he now using this brat to avenge what I did? Was my apology not accepted? I'm late for an apology?
Mary thought of so many prayers in an instant, no matter how ridiculous and impossible they were. His heart hurts. He felt difficulty breathing. His temples are throbbing pain.
Does Jose know what I said in Uncle Marco's room and he's disappointed in me? Thats impossible. He had just come down from the second floor and had not met Jose, so there was no way the man could have known. But Mary was still afraid. He almost cried.
"What's the matter, anyway?" Nolan asked in surprise, beginning to worry. "You sick? Asthma?"
Now he sympathizes. I'm really pathetic. Maria shook her head, waving to signal that she was okay. "Say," said he. "Why can't you be blamed for hitting me?"
"Yes because I'm just defending myself, dong!" nolan replied astonished. "You think being pulled around so doesn't hurt?! And if I get pulled up the stairs, I can fall! You think you're immune to the law? Marco is fair, so if I said I was punching you in self-defense, he wouldn't be so angry!"
Mary silence. The throbbing in his head slowly disappeared. His heart even began to calm down. He stared at Nolan for a long time, looking at the pull of the blonde girl's face. "What did you say?" his tan was so recovered from the sense of wonder.
"You deaf?"
Maria ignored the taunts. "You said no one would blame you if you hit me. Aren't you? And you mean it's because you're just defending yourself?"
"Indeed!"
"That's it?"
"You weren't given privileges by Uncle Marco or Jose?" Maria sure.
"There really is a privilege to hit you?" Now Nolan is astonished.
Maria smiled, giggled, then laughed out loud. "You're funny" he said in a laugh. The noble girl shouldn't giggle recklessly like this, but Maria doesn't care. He feels so ridiculous. "You're funny and adorable" he said as he took a step up, patting Nolan on the shoulder and ruffling his short hair.
"You crazy?" Nolan tried to pull over. He was angry, but now he is confused. Mary was still burning until her tears came. Then the girl hugged him tightly. Nolan smelled a soothing fragrance from the girl's neck and dress, as if Mary was soaking in fairy powder and coming out of a flower bud every day. "You're crazy" he said flatly, no longer asking.
"Yes I'm crazy. I'm crazy for loving you, Nolan. Don't change yeah. Just like this keeps on." He kissed the girl's cheek with pleasure. Nolan screamed and muttered. His hand pushed down Maria's waist, dropping the thing the girl was carrying.
It slammed in the sound of a heavy blow, like the sound of a hammer hitting a tile. The two girls fell silent and looked down at the same time.
Nolan gasped, half shocked and half amazed. "That's a weapon, right?" his stranglehold was restrained, his hands were frenziedly pointing at the gun lying on the two steps below them.
Mary went down the stairs and bowed gracefully, picked up the weapon and examined it from end to end.
"I ruined it?" nolan asked anxiously, coming down to help research despite not knowing what to see.
Mary herself did not know what to check. It only examines whether there are any dents or scratches. "It's okay" he said calmly. "It looks fine."
"It could erupt, right?" Nolan is excited now. Both of his cheeks were blushing and his blue eyeballs were glowing. "I saw in the races, it was shot upwards!"
Maria glanced at the girl, then smiled slightly. "Yes, that kind of thing. But this is no bullet. There's not one."
"You're gonna use it? Shoot who? That monster? Sir William?"
The question is so innocent. Nolan asked because that was what made him curious. No word games, no tricks and layered innuendos, no winged words. Maria begins to understand why Marco even fell on Nolan. This girl was like a wild animal, like a wild squirrel that made her want to give peanuts, just so she could look at her more closely and make the squirrel happy. Even if the squirrel gets angry and bites or then escapes after being fed, then what do you do. That's what wild squirrels are like.
"You know?" Maria put on a sweet smile, her mood improving from feeling relieved. "You got ahold?"
Nolan nodded quickly. "Can I hold it?"
"Don't be here" Mary laughed. He walked first down the stairs leading to the main room. "On the greenhouse alone, so that no one will see."
Nolan ran after her in the back, and Maria really felt like she was fishing for a squirrel with peanuts.
