The Thousand Year Dynasty
04. Winning the Lottery

"It's so tired" said Aksa who seemed to walk with breath and sweat pouring down behind the cloth he was wearing covering his head.

"How about you ask how far we'll go?" nata asked limply and also gasped.

"You think such a complicated question is enough just to use a hand gesture, only?" aksa replied in an annoyed yet weak tone.

"You have a photocopying memory, you still can't understand what they're talking about?" Nata walks with gontai.

"You're hungry so****, huh? How could the ability to remember be transformed into the ability to translate? Isn't your IQ above average. Why don't you try to translate what they say?" Aksa looks sewot.

Nata only fell silent with a lethargic face. "Open it up you said. I****if hungry," he said later.

The sky was starting to look dark. It might have been six hours they had walked, according to Aksa's estimation, since they had no one to use the clock. Which started from when the sun was still overhead, until now it has completely set. Walking followed the two women on horseback, although fourteen times they asked to stop and rest with body language.

"Why don't they let us piggyback on their horses?" aksa asked again when she saw the two women who looked like they were checking if she and Nata were still following them.

"Maybe they are wary of us" Nata replied later.

"Maybe they're afraid of your perverted looks, Nat," said Aksa.

"There is also a look you are mes-" Nata's answer was immediately cut by Aksa with a shout.

"Nat, is there light?! We're finally here, Nat!" aksa shouted happily because it was a sign that he no longer needed to walk.

At the end of the light, a chariot was broken and an old man was sitting in front of the fire. Then the two women were seen talking to the old man, and then they were invited to sit down to rest in front of a warm bonfire.

"The old man was easily familiar with the stranger he had just met in the middle of a barren wasteland like this. Was he not worried about being robbed?" nata asked while receiving a glass of warm liquid from the old man. "Or it could be that the old man knew about these two women" he added, looking into the investigation.

"There are people who are not directly familiar with such a beautiful girl," replied Aksa while tasting a warm drink from the old man earlier. "Oh, it's tea!" added later.

"How old are these two women?" Nata is still seen investigating the three people who are now in front of him.

"The little girl must be about the same age as us. Seventeen years. It's bad, maybe in the thirties" replied Aksa, who was seen enjoying a warm tea in his cup.

"Why are they riding alone through an arid field like this?" Nata is still trying to feel and guess what exactly the two women who have helped him are. The nature and reason why they helped him and Aksa.

"Eitherway. Maybe they are on vacation in the Grand Canyon, "Aksa replied.

Nata stared cynically at Aksa. "Your imaginary power is very high, Aks."

"And you call yourself a scientist with that one-second image?" reply Aksa with a condescending tone.

"It looks like this old man is educated, Aks," Nata said.

"really? I think he's a trader. Look, he's carrying a glass more to travel alone."

"If he's a merchant, he'll have more things to sell. From now on all I saw in this place, just rolls of paper and sheets with symbols on them. Maybe it's a book. Could he be a writer? Or curators? Or maybe a teacher?"

"What if the old man was a writer, or a curator, or a teacher? Do you expect him to understand our language? One of the three million languages that exist on the third planet from the solar system in the other half of the galaxy?"

"Why are you still installing circus mode? Don't we stop walking now?"

Aksa looked silent as if she was remembering something, "Oh, yes. Ii'm sorry. My legs still feel sore. All right, so what's with this educated old man?" aksa said later.

"We can give him a cue to teach us their writing and language" Nata replied after sipping a warm tea in his glass.

Aksa looked at Nata. "It looks like you're full now" he said later, patting Nata on the shoulder.

Soon, the opportunity came. The old man tried to get the two of them to communicate.

"I think it's time for Aks, this guy seems curious about us," Nata said as he looked as the old man spoke while pointing his hands to his chest.

"She's probably introducing us to her name."

"Courans?" asked Aksa, who responded to the nod and a big smile from the old man.

"Aksa," said Aksa, touching his hands to his chest. Responding that he understood what the old man was doing.

"Nata." It seems that Nata also did the same with what Aksa did.

It seemed that the old man was overjoyed at having managed to communicate further with Aksa and Nata. The two women were also happy to see this.

And not lingering, Nata immediately took out a small piece of twig, which then began to write something on the ground. This was responded by the old man enthusiastically.

"N-A-T-A. A-K-S-A," said Nata, twitching the letter on the sand he had just drawn for the old man. And hope the old man is smart enough to understand, that he needs to know the alphabet of this world and how to read it.

Aksa pointed at the letter and then pointed at himself. Then he pointed at the old man and pointed towards the letter. And after several times Nata and Aksa repeated the movement, finally the old man rushed towards Nata and Aksa with a roll of paper from inside his carriage.

"N-A-T-A. A-K-S-A." The man twitched while showing a symbol of the paper scroll he was carrying. And that made Nata, Aksa, and the old man named Couran smile at each other happily. It was as if the three of them had just won the lottery.
