Tragedy 517 - Derek's Promise

"Sshh.." Derek grimaced slightly as a sudden pain struck his head. It made Joe seem anxious about his situation.
"You all right? Is your head hurting again?" Joe panic.
Derek tries to endure the pain so that Joe does not worry about his condition.
"No. I'm fine."
"Really?"
"Actually it only hurts a little, but I'm fine" Derek murmured softly.
He again showed a gloomy face.
"Now how many times. Every chipset installed in my brain must always be charred. I don't understand, other than that, I've had multiple surgeries to replace the damaged chipset. Then after that, my head often hurts.." Derek said softly. Without realizing it, tears were dripping down his cheeks.
"…The taste is really painful. I'm not strong. I just want to die" Derek murmured.
Joe clenched his hand. He held his sister's shoulder and twisted his body to face each other.
"Don't say that! If you die, then I'll be completely alone" Joe said.
"But I can't stand it…"
"You have to hold on. You must live to be with me. We're gonna face all this together, that way you're gonna survive."
"How can I survive, and they will continue to operate on me in case the chipset is broken again."
Joe squeezes Derek's shoulder, hard.
"I'll stop them from doing it. I'll leave you alone so you don't have that surgery!" Joe said with determination, he stared fixedly at Derek's two irises.

Joe paused for a moment to think of the idea that he could thwart the professor so that he wouldn't perform the operation on Derek.
"I'll trade my medical results for yours!" joe said as soon as he got the idea.
"I'll make sure it doesn't happen. Either way, I'm gonna try to thwart them so you don't get operated on."
Derek looked at his brother.
"Thank you, Joe. Because you care about me so much."
"No need to thank me. You're my brother, and the only family I have. I should have protected you. Therefore, promise to hold on until we can both get out of here."
Joe smiled at her. His hand moved rubbing the top of his sister's head.
Derek smiled back thinly while nodding slowly.
"I promise."

Joe stepped towards the edge of the fence. The focus was on the sight of the guard evolvers at work.
Moving transports one by one the people they will transfer from the ship to the laboratory.
One year passed. Since then, he has managed to trick the professor by changing every medical data belonging to Derek and exchanging the results with his.
Derek failed to undergo surgery, and he still remains safe without repeating the operation.
