Creating a script for an original film is a difficult task. First of all, it is not about lack of ideas, but having too many ideas to choose one of them. Brainstorming through many ideas while thinking which one will work best is a task worth complaining about.
Will, who is currently undergoing another brainstorming session, has a headache thinking about what to do and what not to do. There are too many options to choose from. He can go with rom-coms or even fantasy genres. He could even opt out for a mystery thriller, which could be considered his specialty after [Sherlock Holmes] made a name for himself.
If she decides to go with a mystery thriller, then she can add a little fantasy element to make it more interesting. As he continued to think, he could not come to a conclusion about which idea would work and which would not.
He wanted to make a film he could direct and feel great about it and also connected to his future projects. Will doesn't want to make a film that won't connect with his future projects. In fact, he would feel bad about it.
After all, Hollywood is about franchising. Not only that, but in Will's precious world, not only franchises but different universes also exist, making room for a huge amount of connectivity and story sensation. The most famous is of course the universe that consists of Marvel and DC heroes.
As Will continued to think about such things, he continued typing and erasing his words on his laptop. His days passed in agony as he could not find the extraordinary idea that would be a definite hit. After all, it was very difficult for Will to think of an idea and stick to it for a long time because he thought that this and that could be better in this and that.
Of the many ideas Will had in mind, there was one idea of a time-round story. A man gets into an unfortunate event where his daughter is killed in a car accident, but after every time he reaches his funeral, his, he will go back in time and try to save her and will eventually fail at any moment, as he then learns that he is not the only one who travels back in time, it was the same for his daughter's killer who was in a car accident with the intent to kill his daughter.
In addition, there was another idea for the musical about the life of a comedian, but the idea was soon scrapped as well. In the end, he completed two ideas that seemed to have the same amount of potential and risk while discarding all other ideas. He would choose one of them and make a movie out of it, he was short on time, to begin with.
After a rough draft of both ideas is complete, Will calls Jeffrey to ask for his opinion. Although Will knows Jeffrey is busy and so on, he wants Jeffrey to pick one idea for him so he can move on.
*Tap***Tap*
After knocking once, Jeffrey walked into the office without waiting for Will's permission to enter. They were close enough that he could do such a thing and Will didn't mind. Unless, of course, Will is busy having meetings in his office and Jeffrey comes and catches him in action. Which is very unlikely to remember Will's personality.
Will looked at Jeffrey and could not help but laugh at his listless and haggard appearance.
“Yes yes, laugh as you please, boy. I'm too tired of producing movies and being a cinematographer.”
Jeffrey said in a complaining voice, even though his smiling face betrayed him. He is currently so preoccupied with everything related to [1917] that he would consider himself lucky if he could sleep 4 hours a day without any distractions. Will himself knows how hard Jeffrey works and appreciates it greatly.
In fact, his wife continued to complain that he did not give time to the family. But work is work.
After [1917] filming ended, Jeffery was already planning a vacation.
"How are you, Lieutenant Jeff." Will acts like an army commander asking for a report on the battlefield. He was currently referring to [1917] and spoke like that to help Jeffrey lift his mood.
“Yes, Captain. It's going well. Not enough sleep for a week now, but I think I can still function for a few days even if I run out of gas. ”
Jeffrey said cynically, toying with the actions of head and lieutenant Will.
“Really? How is the preparation?”
Will asked seriously this time.
“Yeah, the preparation went well. The set takes longer than expected because of how realistic you want it to be. In addition, casting for other roles is also underway, not so smoothly.”
jeffrey said, his brows furrowed at the end of his sentence.
"Why? What's going on?"
will asked curiously. Since [1917] had no lead role other than the lead role, Will suggested that the famous actor play a cameo for other roles. Robert even agreed to play the role of General Mackenzie.
Coincidentally, the role was played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the original film.
“Yes, Neil Williams asked for half a million just for a 1-minute cameo role. Negotiations are still going on but yes, I am completely speechless to some of these great actors and their shameless agencies.”
Jeffrey said with pressure visible on his forehead.
"Ha ha ha ha. This is a common thing. They are not really serious and try to see what you want most. Don't bother him too much. And Neil Williams isn't needed if his agency is like this. Not like a movie can't work without him."
"I knew. Some other actors agreed without much negotiation. But this person is one of those arrogant people."
During the casting, many of the big actors even said that they would not receive payment for small roles.
This was not the intention of the actors but the agency behind them. Since [1917] was Will's film, the agencies were trying to get a good position out of him. Like this, their actors would have a better chance of working on his films in the future.
And the agency can even work with the DTA.
"As I said, just stop the negotiations on your side and he will immediately provide true value. And if he gives you more trouble, go to the others. Hollywood has no shortage of stars."
Jeffrey asked, changing the topic. He was busy and could not give much time to this meeting.
"Yes, I need you to help me."
Will said and opened the drawer, revealing the two drafts he had made.
He puts it on the table and Jeffery's eyes are on them, wondering what Will is trying to do.
"Pick one of these."
"What the fuck? The script?" He asked, guessing.
"Draft. I'll start working on the script once you select one. One of them will be my next movie."
Jeffrey had previously thought that Will would stop directing after he told him he would not direct [500 Summer days] but now, he has prepared two new stories.
He wanted to frown at the thought of his workaholic nature.
"Okay, let me read it and then I'll say it."
He said and tried to take the first draft but Will quickly shook his head.
"Ah, no, you can't do that."
"What?"
"You have to choose without reading."
Jeffery looked at him as if he was saying something unreasonable and Will hurriedly explained himself.
"The reason I ask you to vote is because in my eyes, both of these stories will work well at the box office and both are well connected to my future plans. It's just I don't know which one I should do next, so I'm 'leaving this on luck."
"And you want me to decide based on my instincts. What if I make the wrong choice?"
"I won't blame you. Just pick it."
Jeffery sighed after hearing those words. For a moment, he felt he had to defy Will's reckless words, but decided against it.
He knew enough about her not to do such a thing. Will is stubborn.
The best thing here is to finish it.
"Okay, let's see ..."
Jeffery looked at both drafts. Both do not have a title written on the front and both look the same. But it contains different stories that will have different fates at the box office.
In the end, he simply took the second draft and gave it to Will.
"This one. I don't know what kind of story it is, but hopefully it works."
Will smiled at her and opened the draft. On the first page, the title of the film is written.
"What's the name of your next film?"
Jeffery asked, seeing Will smile at the draft.
"See for yourself."
He gave the draft away and Jeffery made a strange expression reading the title. It didn't give him any idea about the film.
"What genre?"
"Gangster movie."
On the front page of the draft, the title was [Liberty City].
