The My Hollywood System

The My Hollywood System
Chapter 9

Will begins to work hard to write the script for [The Blair Witch Project].

Although the script was quite short, he did his best to improve and change things according to this world, while trying his best to make a better version of the story. Although the film is considered to be the scariest film of the 90s in American history, Will wants to add a few things and make some changes here and there to make it a little more exciting,

As in the original film, Blair Witch was never shown. Many reasoned that it was due to the lack of budget and technology back then, but the reality is that they have four final alternatives and choose to go with one that does not show the Blair Witch in order to create a sense of unknown and uncertainty among their audience.

While this provides a real look, there are many who criticize this as well, especially since for them, the film feels like a rented horror sightseeing video without any real fear.

Will decided to add an actual background plot for Blair Witch and the character who will play the role of Blair Witch.

Although all this would only increase production costs, the films produced and the overall sensation would increase by at least threefold.

It took a week for him to write the entire manuscript, in the revised version.

Unlike for [17 Again], this time he didn't need it and didn't have a due date, he didn't sacrifice his sleep or training time. Therefore, he wrote it slowly and casually.

Now, he was thinking about how he was going to do the production.

And for that, he needed a group of technical staff who would help him in making his film, and this group of staff was generally called the production team.

But for a budding director like Bill, getting a good production team alone was an impossible task.

He needs connections and recommendations from people who have worked in the industry for a long time.

Since the film was solely his project, his expenditure would also be his. He would definitely lose a lot of capital that he would make from the script [17 Alone].

He needed to gather a crew of actors and needed to find a filming location.

It'll be busy, but Will's still smiling. After all, even if he did not know how the film would go, he would still finish his dream of two lives.

"Hahaha, Will, congratulations on signing a successful contract."

Benjamin laughed after Will signed the contract.

It was a contract for the film [17 more] and now MCA has bought the rights.

Only after reading through the contract twice Will had signed it, but now that he had done so, he felt regret as well as happiness.

Glad that he got 500k USD for the deal and sorry because he knew that he could earn more if he used the script [17 more] to make the film.

But at the moment, he has no resources and making a film like [17 again] would cost at least 40 million dollars.

'Anyway, this is a good start. There will be more opportunities in the future.'

He thought in his mind and Benjamin suddenly changed the subject.

"You know, I was in talks with Edward Friedman yesterday and he seemed interested in [17 again]. I'll send you the script today, but I think it'll continue."

For the record, Edward Friedman was one of the directors associated with the MCA. She specifically made thriller movies early in her career but has been studying romantic comedies lately. He was a well-known figure in the industry and had the skills to support his reputation.

"You mean [17 again] will be a movie?" Will asked, surprised that the project did not go this fast normally.

It was normal for even a good script to take 1-2 years before they were shot and made into a feature film.

"Yes, Edward is a good friend of mine and he wants something like [17 again]. It is trending and is a fairly well-written rom-com. That's why he wanted to speed up production."

"In that case, I hope he makes a good movie out of it."

"I'm sure he'll do it." Benjamin laughing.

He tells her that there is an actor he is working with that he will apply to play the lead in [17 again] and talks more about Will's future.

He even advised him not to spend all the money quickly and save something for the future like in Hollywood, you can get rich on Monday and go broke on Saturday.

After speaking for a while, Benjamin asked.

"Will, are you really going to direct an independent film? Why not take the screenplay as a career for a few years before moving on to director?"

He is still skeptical of Will's choice and doesn't want the latter to spoil any good chances in a new career.

"Uncle, I already told you that I'm not too interested in screenwriting. I want to be a director." Will replied, shaking his head. "In addition, I don't like doing assigned scripts."

Because there are too many screenwriters in America and only a few hundred films and series are adopted each year, it is very difficult for an ordinary screenwriter to make a living.

Because of this, they take on jobs like creating assigned scripts or adapting scripts.

"I understand that. If that's what you want."

Benjamin said and decided to give up persuading Will. After all, it was difficult to do anything when the young person had decided on something.

They don't listen to experience.

Since the signing of the contract was already a success, Will was given a credit card with $500,000 in it.

Most of the time, people in the industry deal with checks or credit cards. Money or cash transfers are rare.

After that Benjamin and Will talk about his father. Benjamin felt regret about how his best friend left him.

He comforts Will that everything will be fine as long as he acts mature and not impulsively when making decisions.

Life in America is faster than the bullet train, which adjusts its speed to success while the slow one lags behind.

There was not much to talk about afterwards and since Benjamin was at work, Will quietly left the MCA office.

Now that he had the money, he decided to go to the mall and buy some clothes, and get a haircut later. Her hair was already growing and she had to shave off the growing beard.

But while on his way, his phone suddenly rang.

[Unknown caller]

[+1 650 *** ****]

It's from an unknown number. Will retrieve.

- Hello? Is this Will Evans?

It was the voice of a woman.

"Yes hello, and who are you?"

– Ah, Will, it's me, June.

Unexpectedly, the caller was June. Will isn't even sure that he'll call her anymore because she's almost a nobody now.

'Did he make a decision?'

What he said next answered Will's question.

– I would like to audition for the role if it is still available.
