The director of [500 summer days] Carson Duckstein, and Marcus talk over a drink at night about some plans regarding the near future.
"So, Marcus, would you like to take on the role that Will has to offer?" ask Carson.
"Yes man. Of course I will,"
The meeting starts by talking about their past and how they are doing now in the industry. Carson Duckstein has reached his peak in Hollywood when compared to where he was before he directed the [500 summer days]. Now that he's been a big hit, Carson's name will often be heard here and there.
In fact, he is now counted as a reliable director. Because he and Will have a long-standing past, Will understands how much fun it is to work with Carson. Because of that and many other work ethic reasons, Will gave Carson the power to direct [Hitch].
Because, [Hitch], [Capture me if you can], [Spiderman] and [Friends] will start pre-production quickly, Will wants someone else to take over [Hitch]. Someone who is fit, capable, confident, responsible, creative, and especially, someone Will can trust. In such a situation, the first person to prove all the qualities during a previous project was Carson Duckstein.
On the day Will met Carson, they talked a little bit about how Carson liked the script. Carson has made it clear that the script is well-crafted and even the story is hilarious for her liking.
He instantly liked Will's script because knowing a good script, a funny story, and Will's brand would be more than enough to make a good movie out of him. Furthermore, they have discussed a bit about the players and Will mentioned Marcus, saying that it would be great if Marcus was cast as Alex Hitchens.
[Hitch] is basically about how Alex Hitchens, better known as Hitch, was a dating doctor. He is also a kind of sentimental advisor, teaching each client how to date the woman of his dreams. His latest project, Albert Brenneman, is a nerdy financial consultant who falls in love with the famous Allegra Cole.
While Hitch helps Albert with his love life, he struggles with his own. She begins to fall in love with work-a-holic, Sarah Melas. He is a gossip columnist. After some boyfriend troubles with her best friend, Sarah labels Hitch with an inappropriate reputation for her. Hitch proves her love and tries hard to win her own love.
When Sara's best friend has a disillusionment of love with a man Sara considers to be a Hitch client, she plots revenge against Hitch and a misunderstanding leads both partners to a conflict situation.
Marcus' character is what Will Smith did in Will's previous world. Hitch's Role.
-
[Capture me if you catch] already in the pre-production stage and Will is involved in it. Filming for [Catch me if you can] is supposed to start next month along with [Hitch]. Will tried to release two films at once. That was the intent behind starting all pre-production and filming at the same time.
Alex Hitchens' character is at the core of [Hitch], which is why Carson himself came to see Marcus so he could figure out Marcus' idea of Alex Hitchens. The last thing Carson wanted was to let Will down, and it was something he wouldn't dare to do as long as he lived.
“So, let me tell you a little bit about our excellence, Alex Hitchens, before anything, I mean, if you agree with the role, you will get it. After all, Think as if you were a stranger who would meet Hitch. You will see that he is smooth, perceptive, and dedicated.
Hitch is someone who goes to great lengths to ensure that the success of his clients is achieved. Not to mention, he is great at staging and analyzing romantic situations, which is his profession; something you know by now.
But if we go back to a stranger scenario, the main advice is not to look for it if all you are interested in is ****. Because part of Hitch is she'll only face men who respect women,”
Carson explained every fact he had analyzed about the Hitchens. As a director, part of his job description is to understand, connect, and know each role to its core. With Carson's words, Marcus understood who Hitchen really was.
"What exactly do you mean? “Well, his personal life; a life full of casual relationships. You know, when I read the script, I felt as if Hitch had a reputation among his friends because it was all about short games. Like, professionally he talks about finding something meaningful, but so far he doesn't seem to go down that path in his own life, ”
“Ahaha... Yes, you are right with that one. "No gimmick, no game ... no girl.", right?" Carson quoted Alex.
Alex is someone who grows slowly. He describes himself as “one who is late developing; someone who wants to make up for lost time” during college.
The photo was taken by Cressida Bailey, his first girlfriend. What they have is beautiful. But, he came too strong and he connected with others. Then he explained the moral of the story, in his words that is, "There are no gimmicks, no games."
“Yes, Carson. Tell me, do you think you want someone like Hitch to give you dating advice on your Single Days? I mean... It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me, not because I'm bad with girl-” “Ahaha? I mean, honestly, my dating life isn't too depressing to ask for advice. But as a respectable man and a person who is always looking for knowledge, I don't mind if there are people who analyze my dating life and give me advice,”
“Yes, you really leaked the facts. Maybe this is my last question today, why do you think this can be successful? Don't tell me it's all because of Will Evans, that's definitely one of the reasons. But as a director, I think you might have your own views as well, don't you?” He asked further.
“Well, first of all, if I'm honest, I believe in Will's script. Like that man who had just reached the top with his creativity; and the script, I believed them. Uh, take this road. Of all the romantic comedies that hit the blockbuster shelves, wouldn't you agree if I said more than half were terrible romantic comedies?” Marcus nodded as if he approved of Carson's entire point of view on the genre.
“The point is to try and not be one of those movies but to join that line. This can be said to be something that makes me believe in this project, I really think it is possible. Like, the script wasn't very romantic or soft, Will tried to be funny and I think he did it. But you know, only time will tell,” explains Carson.
In the industry, romantic comedies are quite popular, and cliche. The same old concept has bored almost all romantic comedy fans, but Will Evans thinks it will be a different concept with a different meaning.
“This opportunity is actually very large. The space for popularity with scripts is vast. And seriously, do we get room to improvise? Like, in any situation. It's not that I don't like any scenes, I just want to know,” Marcus has a valid question ringing in his head.
“If I'm really honest for the umpteenth time in our little chat, as a director, you become a control freak. That's the nature of work and letting actors go wild isn't it. I know where the question comes from, but yes, we better let it go. Improvisation can always be done when needed, you know?” Carson cleared his mind a little. "Does that mean it's been resolved?" She asked.
"It's been settled since Will chose me, Carson,"
“Haha. Well, as I've seen and heard, you have a good understanding of Alex Hitchen, " Carson said and paused before continuing, "You're really a very talented actor, Marcus,"
“Thank you, Carson. I just don't want to waste my second chance. To be honest, it was the last thing I wanted right now. I'll do my best to the best of my ability, and I hope I live up to your expectations as well. I will not waste my potential this time,” Marcus said. He shook his head remembering something and said, "I don't want anything wrong this time,"
There's been a big difference in Marcus's personality since he got off drugs. He felt grateful to Will from the bottom of his soul. It was mainly because, recalling, the challenge he overcame was because of Will and was something he regretted.
But the more he thought about it, the more respect for Will Evans increased. Who would offer someone to lead and join a big company like the DTA, especially someone who is on the verge of ruining their career and lives together? Will is the God who lives in Marcus's eyes.
“Yes, Markus. We know that you will do well and do not disappoint our expectations. Are you ready to be Alex?” Carson asked in a happy tone.
"Yes, right," Marcus smiled after those words came out of his lips.
