For over an hour, Benjamin continued to read the script [17 more]. From time to time, he would ask questions related to the story and Will would answer them.
After reading over half the script, Benjamin rubbed his forehead and smiled towards the script in his hand.
He had more appointments today and it would take too long if he continued reading the script. After all, he had already made sure that the script was not bad at all.
In fact, it's very good.
Unlike most scripts in Hollywood, [17 again] it looks like a completely revised script. There was a big difference in the first draft and the revised version of the manuscript.
Typically, the studio will simply save the basic plot of the script and change things up, especially to make it a better screen experience as most of the first drafts cannot be used as the final script of a movie.
But it's a bit different to [17 again].
The story looks refined and the characters look good. Although some dialogue needs to be revised, most are on target.
'That can definitely be used.'
Benjamin thought and after gathering his words finally opened his mouth after a long time.
"Will, how long have you been writing this script?"
"About half a year. I planned this for my first film after finishing college. But now that things have become like this, I decided to sell it."
Will lies, makes up stories but his uncle trusts him unsuspecting.
That's because Will is the one with the talent in his eyes who got into EUC, one of the best cinematic schools in Los Angeles and even America.
Many of the alumni have become popular directors.
It's just that he didn't know that Will also had talent in screenwriting. It was a surprise but it must have been good.
"Your script is really interesting. Since you are family, I will not try to ramble with you. I'm interested in signing a contract for the rights [17 again]."
Will smiled at her.
He only took the chance by meeting Benjamin but it worked out really well for him. It seems like luck is really on her side.
"Then, Uncle, we need to discuss the contract."
"Yes, but first, I have to tell you a few things. Even if everything goes well with [17 again] and it starts pre-production, you won't have too much power on casting and directors and investors can even make the change. Do you understand?"
Benjamin asked and Will nodded.
If he didn't need money and had little power, he would have tried to negotiate but at this time other than money, he didn't have the conditions he wanted to negotiate.
[17 again] was just a quick way for him to earn a lot of money.
"I understand that, Uncle Charles."
"Then, okay. I really thought that maybe you could sign with the MCA as a screenwriter. Although, rarely, we signed it and in my eyes, you are a talent."
Benjamin proposed with sincere words.
If he could recruit a young and talented screenwriter like Will, the agency would definitely take good care of him and he would even be able to give him a better share of the profits [17 more].
But unfortunately for him, Will shook his head.
"Sorry, uncle. I don't really plan on being a screenwriter or even being tied to an agency."
"Then what are you going to do?" benjamin asked confused.
"You know me. I've always wanted to be a director and I still want to do that. Right now I'm thinking of directing an independent film and writing more side scripts."
Benjamin frowned hearing that and thought that Will was too impatient and the lack of experience hindered him.
"Will, even if you're directing a movie right now, I don't think it's going to make much. Even if it's good, it can only make a splash at some film festivals but it's almost impossible to pull this off. Even the most talented writers were over 30 years old when they started their projects."
Will only smiled faintly at Benjamin's worries. He knew where he came from and did not accept it because Benjamin looked down on him. He was really worried that Will would do something stupid with the money he earned from the script, so he tried to persuade him.
“Don't worry Uncle Charles, I won't spend all the money I get from the script for stupid duties. I will make sure to use it wisely. Just trust me on this one."
Benjamin sighed again while shaking his head. There was no point in trying to chase after this hot-blooded young man, as he was someone who had passed this age as well.
He only hoped that whatever Will planned would work, even though he didn't have much hope.
"All right then. I have another appointment that has been delayed already. Let's discuss the contract details at our next meeting. I need to discuss this with the boss as well. So give me some time, I'll call you in a few days. ”
Will understands that Benjamin has already done far more than he expected when he came here, so he won't make things difficult for him.
Will leaves Benjamin's office, but not before Benjamin reminds him to call him whenever he needs help. Will feels very grateful to Benjamin for everything he has done so far, including checking it out while not many people remember him.
Since then, Will plans to go home and start typing the script for 'The Blair Witch Project'. Although he was unsure how long it would take to shoot, how he would assemble the crew for filming and how much would be gained from the film, he was confident that it would be a hit.
With a gentle smile and a beaming heart, Will walked out of Benjamin's office.
