Chapter 9 The rain tragedy

Embarrassed, Velicia was extremely embarrassed right now at Raymond. He had not expected to meet Raymond spewing his lunch.

"You why Ve? Windin? Or is he sick?" asked Raymond who seemed worried about her.

"Mmm.. I. I. I. it seems like I just ate wrong at lunch earlier," said Velicia Lirih who still felt her stomach was pompous and unpleasant.

"You must have eaten it uncomfortably. Wh why? Were you in a hurry? Or because you're too hungry to eat too much?" asked Raymond, chuckling.

I ate in a hurry because it was uncomfortable and too much so that my stomach could not accept it, Velicia answered him inwardly.

"Ve, does it still hurt?" raymond asked when he saw Velicia silent, not answering his question.

"Or are you offended by my jokes?" raymond asked back with his face in front of Velicia.

Velicia's eyes widened to see how close Raymond's face was to her. There was a strange sigh in him and his heart was now beating very fast.

Velicia was misbehaved, she rewinded her face and looked the other way so that Raymond would not notice the red hue implied on her face.

"Why Ve, is something wrong? Or is anyone still sick?" ask Raymond back.

"No Ray. I just felt a little nauseous earlier. Now it's no," Velicia replied with a sweet smile.

Raymond smiled sweetly at Velicia. For a moment they were swept away in the atmosphere. After a while, it suddenly rained heavily.

"Ve, let's take shelter there," said Raymond, drawing Velicia's hand.

The two of them ran together towards the glass booth of a long-disused public phone. They both went into a glass room with a pay phone in it.

Not so narrow and not so wide in the glass room. But it can still hold both of their bodies inside.

Their bodies were close together, and their eyes were staring at each other. I don't know what's in their hearts that they're completely grounded in each other.

Pause!

The sound of lightning struck both of them. They both looked wrong and looked the other way.

"Ehemmm..," Raymond cleared his throat to melt the tension between the two of them.

Velicia imitated Raymond. He nodded so that he would no longer be awkward.

"It looks like the rain will be long" Raymond said as he looked at the rain from the room surrounded by glass.

Velicia also looked at the rain from the glass that surrounded her. He looked in awe at the rain which was able to make everyone who saw it become calm.

Velicia opened the glass-room door a little and she raised her hand to face the rain that was falling in front of her.

"Want rain?" asked Raymond to Velicia.

Velicia turned to look at Raymond. He simply smiled at Raymond without answering the question.

Raymond raised his hand to the rain. Then he said,

"You seem to like the rain. Isn't it?" 

Velicia smiled and nodded her head to answer Raymond's question to her.

"Want rain?" Raymond asked while chuckling.

"I really like the rain, because in the rain no one will know if I am crying. If lonely, rain water can accompany me to enliven the atmosphere. Very childish, isn't it? But I like it so much" Velicia said with a smile looking at the rain coming down from the glass cubicle.

Raymond watched Velicia's face from the side. She smiled as she saw Velicia smiling at the rain.

Velicia looked to the side and they were now facing each other. Their eyes met each other, as if locking their eyes together, so their gazes clashed in a moment.

I don't know what's on their minds until they're reluctant to turn their eyes away.

Ctaarrr!

The extremely shocking sound of lightning made them come to a realization. Instantly they turned their faces away in a wrong manner.

If you stay here with him for a long time, Raymond said in his heart.

"It looks like it's going to be raining for a long time. Are we just running through the rain?" raymond asked Velicia who was facing the other direction to avoid looking at Raymond.

It's better for me to be raining than to be like this with her, Velicia said in her heart.

"Emmm so, I haven't been raining in a long time, either" Velicia replied with a clumsy smile.

Raymond came out of the glass chamber first, then he reached out his hand to help Velicia out of the glass cubicle because in front of him was a puddle of water that had to be jumped when coming out of the glass cubicle.

Velicia welcomed Raymond's hand and jumped over the water until it hit Raymond's body. Raymond's hand caught Velicia's body so that the two of them would not fall.

Now they are like people hugging. Raymond's hand was at Velicia's waist and Velicia's hand was coiled around Raymond's neck.

Their eyes meet again. For a moment they were silent and enjoying each other's gaze. The rain fell so much that they realized that they were now raining.

"Let's run fast" said Raymond, pulling Velicia's hand and asking her to run.

The rain fell very heavily accompanied by thunderous lightning, making the road they passed by very quiet.

The two of them ran through the rain while holding hands. Unknowingly they ran up to the road that separated the direction of their house. 

Under a large tree that was in the fork of the road, they now took shelter.

"I'll walk that way. My house is right at the address I asked you the other day" Raymond said, pointing in the direction he was about to go.

"If my house goes that way. We better split up here, " Velicia said as she pointed to her house.

"alright. Be careful Ve. See you soon" said Raymond, smiling sweetly at Velicia.

Velicia returned Raymond's smile before she ran towards her house.

Raymond looked at Velicia who was running until she was no longer seen by him. After that he immediately ran home without caring about the rain that was getting heavier.

Velicia opened the door of her house with a smile that did not fade from earlier.

"Just home?" asked Ferdi who was sitting on the sofa while watching television and rubbed the feathers of Lili on his lap.

Instantly Velicia's smile faded away. He now remembered his heartache. Her brief pleasures with Raymond are now covered by her grief at her heartache for Ferdi, her husband.

"Hmmm," Velicia replied as she walked into her room.

"Can't you reduce your activities outside with your friends so that by the time your husband comes home you'll be home preparing meals?" ferdi asked with a cry from his current place.
