Jasper and Charlie were talking, west of Tefa City at Walmart.
Wendy and Sally spoke and laughed as they picked the item while Julian stood near them and stared at everyone close to them.
The second time he managed to scare a little girl into tears, Wendy turned around and said helplessly to Julian, "Julian, can't you make your face look more friendly? Look how scared that little girl is."
Julian said innocently, "I didn't mean to scare her on purpose. I just saw her again because she looked cute."
"You don't know how scary you are when you see people" Sally said with a laugh. He picked up a foam pillow, which has only just begun to gain popularity in a small part of the country in recent years.
"Wendy, do you think these pillows are useful? Jasper's father had neck problems, and normal pillows did not allow him to sleep well. I hear this pillow is quite useful to make sleep sound."
Wendy asked in surprise, "Charlie has a neck problem? Has he checked her into the hospital?"
Sally smiled as she said, "There's no need to check on her. He has had that problem for years now because of his job. Back then, we had to plant several acres of rice in a day, and we spent all that time working in the fields. It's not strange if we have problems with our neck and back. It can't be cured."
Wendy chose the best foam pillow and placed it on the trolley. "Let's buy one for now. I have a friend overseas, and I can ask him to send the one produced there for me."
"There's no need to bother like that," Sally said hurriedly.
Wendy smiled and said, "It's just a small matter. No need to be that formal with me."
As Sally stared at the goods shelf in the supermarket, she asked naturally, "Do you need anything at home? Let's buy some for you to take home."
Sally disagreed when she said, "I heard from Jasper that your mother died when you were young, and your father raised you alone. He's a guy, and you're a girl who's never done any housework in her life. There's no way you two know if there's anything less than a closet."
"I'll buy some stuff for you two. Christmas and New Year are near. You should take this opportunity to change some things."
Shocked and touched, Wendy grabbed Sally's hand while saying, "Thank you."
After all these years, Wendy had gotten used to living without her mother taking care of her. However, she must now feel the love and attention her father Sally cannot give her.
It was the kind of tenderness that only a mother had.
This kind of gentleness towards the smallest things was the most touching for Wendy, who had lost her mother's love over ten years ago.
Sally patted Wendy's palm gently as she said softly, "From today onwards, I will be your mother. There's no need for us to be polite anymore."
"Good!" Wendy nodded and smiled happily as she replied.
As the two push their trolley to the payment counter and stand in line, Wendy realizes that a man in the other row is staring at her.
"Are you Wendy Schuler? Is that really you? I dare not say hello!" the handsome young man said excitedly to Wendy.
