After Terence finished speaking, the atmosphere in the room changed drastically.
Everyone's attention peaked as they stared at Jasper with widened eyes, waiting for his answer.
Jasper replied with a smile. Instead of accepting the box, he looked at Terence and said, "I spent most of my time out of town after graduation. I haven't been back in a long time. May I know who you are?"
Terence sneered. "You're a leading figure and a big boss now. Of course, you don't pay attention to poor relatives like us. It's normal for you to forget about it" he said.
"I'm Terence Laine. I can be considered your cousin because Darrel Laine is my brother."
Jasper nodded in realization. "I remember she had a little brother. He called me not long ago to tell me he was rushing back by train. He said that he would arrive in a while" he said.
Terence sulked and said, "Everyone knows that my brother will soon be running a big business. He has reached an agreement with bosses from other regions and he will open dozens of hotpot restaurants in the province next year. Of course, you'll care more about him."
"After all, you're nothing compared to him after his hotpot restaurant chain started operating."
Terence's insulting words piqued Jasper's interest.
Looks like Terence Laine doesn't know yet that she's the one who gave her brother the funds to start his hotpot restaurant chain.
"That's it, there's no meaning in talking about something like that. Anyway, remember this. Don't think that you can look down on your poor relatives just because you have some money. You're very rich, but when have you ever given us any benefit?"
"I'm in a pinch now. Will you lend me a few tens of thousands of dollars? Don't worry, after my brother opens the chain of hotpot restaurants, he'll be the big boss too. He won't trouble you by refusing to pay that small sum of money" Terence said haughtily.
"Terence Laine!"
His uncle then turned to face Jasper. He laughed crisply. "Jasp, I've spoiled her since she was a child. Please don't drop to his level. I'll teach him a lesson after this" he told Jasper.
Jasper waved his hand and looked at Terence with a cheerful grin. "How much money do you want?" She asked.
Terence rolled his eyeballs. Despite the burning anger in his father's gaze, Terence replied stubbornly, "At least 50,000 dollars!"
Jasper nodded and took the checkbook out of his coat. He went on to fill out a check worth 50,000 dollars. "Take this check. You can withdraw 50,000 dollars from any bank at any time" he told Terence.
"I didn't lend you this money, so you don't have to give it back to me. I bought this wild ginseng from you with this sum of money. That way, you don't have to feel like I'm using you. How's it?" She asked.
Terence sneered and said, "No wonder you're so good at making money. You have such a neat plan. However, never think of using your devious plan on your relatives. This wild ginseng over 200 years old is a real treasure. I had already asked him outside, and I heard that it was so rare that it could not even be bought with money. If you want to buy it, you have to pay me at least 100,000 dollars."
Jasper wrote another 50,000-dollar check without saying a word. He handed the two checks to Terence and told him, "This is the 100,000 dollars you asked for."
Terence noticed that Jasper was very calm right now. He didn't even think twice before giving her 100,000 dollars.
100,000 dollars is a monumental amount of money for every average family out there.
At that moment, Terence became dissatisfied after realizing how rich Jasper was. Greed instantly clouded his mind as he raised his head angrily and said, "That's not enough! Give me at least 200,000 dollars!"
Jasper chuckled lightly and kept both checks. "First, you want 50,000 dollars, then you want 100,000 dollars. I've given you everything you've asked for. However, you are now demanding that I give you 200,000 dollars. Do you think I'm a fool who doesn't understand numbers? Because you don't sell your stuff, yeah. Take it back," he said in a flat tone.
