Monica had no other assumptions than that she was in heaven. Or, at the very least, he was in one of the places in heaven. Monica refused to believe anything different. Because, he was in a place that logic could not digest. He did not understand how such a place could exist.
Monica has explored the area around the room.
When he exited the room from the wall on the right, he was immediately on a small island with a background time of night. The waves hit the coral and the sand of the beach. When he turned around, he found the room that housed him was a tree trunk made in such a way that it became a room. The tree was large and grew all the fruit and food, there was even the thigh of a grilled goat growing from the base of the fruit.
When he came out of the wall to the left of the room, he was on a different island again. If previously the tree trunk was made into a room, this time a large dragon statue—exactly the belly of a dragon statue. Not just one. The island was filled with many statues whose stomach became a room with various facilities. One of them is a mysterious hot spring.
When he exited the front of the room, he was immediately on the snowy plains. Snow as far as the eye could see with the leafless but fruiting trees. Unlike the previous two places, this time the room that housed Monica was a bear-shaped snow house. The top there is no chimney, but a hot pool to soak in.
Meanwhile, the forest was what greeted him as he walked out of the back wall. It is not surprising because there are many umbrellas that can be used. There was a waterfall behind the wooden house that became his original room. Beside the house there is a large and rocky river that flows slowly, while on the other side there are cliffs that can be climbed easily.
And Monica did not feel tired at all when she re-entered the room with the walls open.
However, if there is one thing that makes Monica doubt if this is heaven, she feels she is too alive to accept that she is dead.
Nothing changed from him, other than the fact that he now has black blond hair like a blend of two different-colored noodles. His body became a half inch shorter. His body was the same one that Sataniciela was trying to master. That is, he is much stronger than his usual self. He felt he could defeat all the members of Deus Chaperon besides Xavier.
Speaking of Xavier, what happened to the boy? Is he safe? Was that creature named Lucifer able to survive and is now looking for Xavier? What pengorba—
“Monica Elsesky.”
Monica gasped in shock with a call that came suddenly ‒ she even almost toppled from the edge of the mattress.
He spontaneously turned around intending to give a piece of advice to the person who had appeared suddenly. However, his lips stopped before any words came out. What his eyes were looking at was Xavier, but his gaze and aura were different. His gaze was sharp; his aura shrieked death. Monica even felt her bones shivering in the cold.
“You know this face, but I'm not that person. I purposely used this form so you wouldn't faint from fear.”
“Who are you?” monica asked after calming down. “How can you and I be here?”
“I am death, come to you because you are now between life and death. This is the place between life and death. I came to decide whether to send you back to the world or pull you to the brink of death.”
Oh, it's worth it. Monica now understood why she did not feel dead. It all makes sense.
“But what do you mean by the last sentence?” his question demanded an explanation – eyes looked intensely at the clone of Xavier who stood holding a death scythe. “Do I still have a chance at life?”
“It depends on you. If you have a compelling reason to live, I can return you to the world. But, if you no longer have a reason, I'll send you to the brink of death. Do you have a reason to live?”
Monica didn't need much time to think about that answer. He had owned it even before Carnal Village was destroyed. He already had it even when he was still a frequent Xavier.
“Of course I have,” replied Monica without hesitation. “I want to live happily with Xavier. Stay alone with two or three children who will accompany the day. Eating together, gardening together, fishing together, joking together, and I also want to do adult things with him. I want to be with him. If I live again, I want to be more courageous. That jerk Xavier knew I liked him, but he pretended not to know because I didn't dare say. But this time I will say, I will force it.”
“It's no surprise you sacrificed yourself for him. But what if he already has a wife and children? Do you still accept it?”
“A-What did you say?! He already has a wife and child?!!”
“...If. I said if. I don't know the truth. You know the man better.”
Monica was silent for a moment, her eyes looking down at the unpatterned blanket. However, his mind was not on that blanket. His mind was pondering about the death's words.
Monica knows Xavier very well. Despite hating the token, Monica knew it was not impossible. This is Xavier he's talking about. The boy would not hesitate to hide it from her. Heh, he could even imagine who the wife was. Artemys friendly pretentious smile had terrorized his head. The fact that Artemys had not been able to meet in months by Kanna reinforced that assumption. She may have kept her pregnancy a secret.
“Are you going to take it?”
Can he accept it? That's a very unfair question. Monica didn't like to hear it. However, he could not escape this situation.
“...There's nothing I can do even if I don't want to accept it, right? Argh, I hate this world. Why does the world consider normal men with many wives, especially the nobles and kings? Why is there no prohibition that forbids men with many wives?”
“...You did not answer my question. Are you gonna take it? Or are you going to find another one? I need a reason that can keep you alive.”
“...I've liked Xavier since childhood. Being his wife and being happy together is my dream. I never thought of looking at another man. So, inevitably, I had to learn to accept it. If that is the case, I will accept it. Besides, he still owes me some requests, I can use him.”
“...You didn't think to make it battered, did you? I want a sincere reason. It's a second chance, so I want you to show some seriousness.”
“...I admit I want to crush his bones if it is true he already has a wife and child, but after that I will directly heal him— slowly. I will take good care of her and satisfy her until she is completely healed.”
Whether it was just her feelings or what, Monica saw a clone of Xavier sweating at her temple. Is there anything unusual? Or the….
“I'm sincere.”
“…”
“…”
“Good. I'll return you to the world. But, if you vent your emotions like that, I will punish you. I won't pull you to the brink of death, but Xavier will take your place. You sacrificed your life for her, it's appropriate that she take your place.”
Monica sighed softly. “Alright,” he said a moment later. “I will try to hold back emotions. I don't want to lose Xavier. There's no point in me coming back to life if Xavier is going to die.”
“True. You should make good use of your second chance. Now close your eyes. I'll send you to your world after the third second.”
Monica nodded and closed her eyes. Instantly his head felt heavy and his body seemed to fall into a space filled with the pull of gravity from different directions.
And when Monica opened her eyes, she found herself gazing with Xavier's red eyes. His right hand was within the grasp of the young man, and his head lay on his thighs. They are on snow – like in the Amerlesia Mountains region.
“Monica, thank goodness you finally woke up. I don't know what to do if you don't wake up.”
“I...still live?”
“Of course. I can't let you die. No one can take you away from me. I won't take it.”
Monica reflexively sat herself down slowly, Xavier helping her painstakingly.
“You shouldn't make—”
Monica didn't let Xavier finish his sentence. He quickly smothered Xavier's mouth and forcibly dropped him. In an instant he was already sitting on Xavier's chest with his left hand already holding a black spear. “So, Lord of Death, are you going to take yourself to the brink of death?” asked with a grin mixed with annoyance and anger, his right hand he pulled from smothering the mouth of the commander.
“You...aware of it?” xavier asked in panic.
“No,” replied Monica quickly, her lips curving wider. “But you just confirmed it.”
“Ah...”.
“So...?”
“Mo-Monica, remember! You promised! Hey, get rid of that spear! Monica, this is not you!”
“Haa…. I was just kidding.” Monica removed her spear and moved from occupying the young man's chest. “I just thank you for doing it all,” he continued while sitting next to the young man with slightly curved lips. “If you don't do that, I probably won't be able to say everything.”
“So you're not angry?” ask Xavier to make sure, sit down.
“Of course I'm angry, but there's nothing I can do. Protests are free. What happened cannot be changed. That woman is Artemys, right?”
“True. And I'm glad you could take it. If this is the case, maybe I will be able to be frank if I already have two wives and two a—I mean, I can really terbu—”
“Vier.”
“Mo-Monica..spear it...”.
“Did you just say two wives and two children?”
“….”
“….”
“Monica, I-I can explain! It's not like you heard! Really am! You must perca—”
“Please say goodbye to your future, Xavier von Hernandez.”
…Not all plans can be successful; sometimes a blunder comes from yourself. Xavier understood it the hard way. Or perhaps, is blunder part of the plan?
