Against the World II: Transgression
Chapter 2: When the Sun Set, Part 1

...—22th June, E642 | Nevada, Vermillion Empire—...

AS the sun had just risen a few dozen degrees past the height of the spear, Xavier set his foot back inside the Imperial Palace. Without further ado, he asked a servant to tell Kanna that he wanted to meet, then waited in the palace waiting room in silence. Xavier's eyes closed. He must put aside for a moment his ego ‒ for the sake of a shining future.

Xavier's wait didn't last long. Two pairs of footsteps entered his ears a dozen minutes later. Spontaneous Xavier's eyes opened, making his blood red bead meet a pair of clean blue beads. And Meyrin had stood faithfully behind the owner of that beautiful, glittering iris.

“How?” Kanna doesn't mince words.

Xavier shook his head slowly. “This is the first time Nizivia avoided me like this,” she said followed a sigh of resignation, before then looking intensely at the princess, saying with full seriousness, “I know what Nizivia wants to do.”

“What is it?”

“Death Vermyna Hermythys.”

“...Vermyna Hermythys?”

“Then, about eleven or twelve years ago,” story Xavier, “village Nizivia was attacked by a vampire. And that vampire is none other than Vermyna Hermythys. I don't know the exact reason behind the attack. However, to be sure, both of Nizivia's parents were murdered that night. Nizivia witnessed firsthand how her parents died. If you don't know, Nizivia's goal as Commander is to get an army to attack the vampire queen.”

“So apparently. So, everything to get his revenge done, huh?” Kanna didn't look surprised.

“You know something?” ask Xavier, but don't let Kanna respond. “I at least know that the Vampire Kingdom and Vermillion Empire are not hostile to each other—both have one main enemy in common: Emiliel Holy Kingdom.”

Kanna sighed softly, silently pondering for a few minutes, before then deciding to open her mouth. “Officially, the Vampire Kingdom and Vermillion Empire have no cooperative relationship of any kind. However, the same cannot be said of my father and Vermyna Hermythys. There's a story about him who once went to his palace of vampire queens. Perhaps the cooperation between them had started since then. Or, worse, previous emperors had a special connection with the vampire queen.”

“Elf Kingdom,” Kanna continued, “before her throne was taken over by Evillia Evrillia, their king blatantly made Vampire Kingdom an ally. From the reports I got from Division 3, it was clear that they were running some kind of illegal and dangerous experiment there. Ever since Evillia took the throne, the relationship was broken and the trial places were destroyed. Perhaps that is the reason why the Vampire Kingdom is willing to be invited to work together to attack Elf Kingdom.”

Xavier nodded in understanding. It did not miss his expectations. However, that doesn't solve the problem. He must know the details of his plan, then approach Nizivia at the right time and place. That way, Xavier would be spared the impression of helping the empire in front of Evillia.

“How about the location of their kingdom? At the very least, access to it?” ask Xavier to make sure.

However, Kanna simply shook her head in response to that question. “Lumeira won't tell me. I could have asked my father or Uncle Edward, but I'm sorry I didn't. However, at the very least, I can tell you when they will attack Elf Kingdom.”

Xavier nodded in understanding. “No problem,” said. “Lantas, when exactly do they attack?”

Xavier could have made sure of it himself, but it was better to ask. That way, Xavier will not cause the consequences of being considered an enemy spy ‒ traitor of the empire. Ah, from the beginning he was never loyal, not worthy to be called a traitor.

“I have a better solution,” Kanna said with a mysterious sinium on her lips, making Xavier spontaneously raise next to her questionable eyebrows. “You and I, we will disguise ourselves as members of the Islan Guardian and save Nizivia.”

“Islam Guardian?” ask Xavier with an expression that asks “you're kidding?”.

“Deus Guardian is there to protect Deus Lake and Islan from Veria attack,” Kanna explained. “Deus Chaperon resurrects the story of those buried by the church and their Knight Templar. Lake Deus is no more. Deus Chaperon no longer has meaning. Therefore, the Islan Guardian is fit to replace Deus Guardian.”

Xavier refrained from snorting. Kanna had indirectly mocked him by saying Deus Chaperon no longer had any meaning. However, if thought correctly, Kanna was not wrong. In fact, Deus Lake no longer exists. However, it is not the literal meaning symbolized by Deus Chaperon, but the historical meaning. The unity of the Islan when Deus Guardian was successful, that is what Deus Guardian tried to convey.

Nevertheless—

“It's not a bad idea.”

“What is the Guardian Island it will be for real, or just one-time use?” ask Xavier.

“Depends on situation and condition. If we can leave a deep impression, it is not impossible in the future later we will use that name again.”

“Alright, let's do that.”

“Lusa, come back here before dusk. Nizivia and Lumeira's army will move at dusk, we'll get ahead of them first. Nizivia can't detect penetrating other dimensions, we'll make some sloppiness for her.”

…Both are unaware….

…Their business had failed before they could do so.

…They are too late.

...—Evrillia, Elf Kingdom—...

The Evana treehouse that had technically been theirs had long ago given off a different impression. Monica's distress curled her lips every time she came back here. No more sensations “place back” here, only quiet welcome. Elena was the only one of them to return here frequently. Jose returns several times a month. Meanwhile, Menez almost never again spent the night in this big tree house.

Monica who had just spoken to Luciel at Evillia's palace did not hesitate to bring her two legs into the tree house. He knew Elena was inside. Camelia says today and tomorrow Elena is free to work. He did not know with Jose ‒ the boy was already so mixed up with the elves. He's more outside than at home. Menez won't be back for a few days, at least that's what he's been told. So, only Elena is there.

Monica's assumption proved correct ‒ only Elena herself welcomed. The woman who was two years older than him showed a happy look at his presence. Monica lives with Zie in the Haikal Islands. Although he often came here, but he quite rarely stayed at this place. Even if he stays at the Elf Kingdom, it's at Evillia's place like last night. So, Elena's reaction was very reasonable.

Monica spent over an hour talking to Elena. They don't talk seriously, just talk pleasantries and gossip about girls. Nothing more, nothing less. However, both of them enjoyed such a short moment.

“You want to come back?” elena asked with a frowning forehead.

“Ya,” nod Monica with a thin smile. “I need to get back to Zie's place immediately. Next time, I'll try to at least stay here. Or, if my business is not too important, I can ask you to accompany me at the palace.”

“Alright, send my regards to Miss Zie.”

Monica nodded, hugged Elena, and the farewell passed. Monica left without wearing her mask. The mask was neatly pinned on his left waist, covered in his Deus Chaperon robe.

The blonde-haired lady did not directly teleport herself to where Zie was. He walked leisurely through the streets of the capital. Monica loved this city, so she loved walking like this. Monica continued to enjoy the atmosphere of the city like that until she finally exited the city gate.

Monica also did not directly teleport herself there. He darted quickly into the forest, going to the usual place he teleported himself. Monica did that not without reason. Teleporting to a place far enough away requires ‒ preparation the further the distance, the longer the preparation. Using the teleportation magic circle that her destination had set up, Monica would not take long.

Without wasting any time, Monica instantly darted towards the magic circle located between the two big trees. However, his instincts suddenly screamed and asked Monica to stop.

And sure enough, the magic circle shimmered brightly, and immediately then disappeared in lightning sparks—both trees on the right and left of the former magic circle decayed into flakes of ash.

Soon Monica found herself in front of two women: one short, the other eleven twelve with Monica.

“...Monica Elsesky,” said the low-postured girl in her monotonous intonation. “We are looking forward to your arrival,” added the other woman.

Monica knew them both: Eleventh Commander Nizivia von Clasta and Third Commander Lumeira von Talhasta.
