Against the World II: Transgression
Chapter 17: Transcendental Being, Part 3

If asked if someone can use magic that he does not have—for example, lightning magic users use fire magic?

99 Percent of respondents will say no. It was common knowledge that one could only use the magic one possessed. Let alone other magic, they can't even use magic if they don't master the three fundamentals of magic. People would snort if anyone said people who were not born with fire magic could use fire magic.

The answer is not inherently wrong, but neither is the absolute truth.

A person who was born with [Lightning Magic], where they naturally knew lightning. When a novice user wants a spell to be created, it automatically creates a translator to realize that will. The magic circle is the intended translator. When the magic user wanted the ball of lightning, a magic circle would appear and turn the mana into a ball of lightning. When people get used to it, they no longer need a magic circle to change.

What if the user of [Lightning Magic] willed a fireball spell?

Where they would also work as they should, but since they did not know the magic circle that represented the fire element, a fireball could not be produced. Hence, it became common knowledge that one could only use the magic they had from birth. Or, with a certain ritual, they could absorb the souls of others and take their magic.

However, that does not necessarily make it impossible for someone to use magic that he does not have. They could not use it naturally, but if they memorized all the runes that formed the magic circle, they could draw whatever magic circle they wanted with blood or ink. Then they just need to sacrifice a certain amount of mana for the magic circle though, and bam! Spells from magic they didn't have were successfully used.

Unfortunately, even though it was one loophole that could be utilized in the magic system that the god created, it could not really be utilized. Which fool would wait for someone to manually create a magic circle in the middle of a battle? Moreover, those who memorized all the runes present in the magic system the god created were only [Rune Magic] users. That's not all either. And, of course, there is magic that still cannot be used even though it can perfectly replicate the magic circle formula.

Rather than trouble themselves making magic circles conventionally, it was better for them to practice swords or martial techniques. It is a thought that some people are not born with talent, some abort dreams and choose normal professions. For some who remain stubborn, they will eventually become researchers.

So, how Artemys— who does not even master the three fundamentals of magic to the stage where he can use magic—can memorize all the existing runes?

The answer is simple: information that cannot be obtained for free can be purchased. Whenever and wherever, money can always move things.

And, for Artemys who was untalented in both magic and martial arts, what could he do other than utilize things that could be utilized? For this reason Artemys was able to string letters after letters of the ancient script to create useful formulas. Unlike Kanna who was cursed by [Rune Magic], Artemys only relied on her mind to make a formula.

The exotic green haired lady indeed could not write runes with mana like a [Rune Magic] user. However, if writing magic circles were manually contested, no one could defeat Artemys. Even if it was Kanna's opponent, Artemys would not lose if it were conventional formula-making. If I had [Rune Magic]….

Artemys sighed, expelling arrogant thoughts from within. Being confident is great, but don't be arrogant. No matter how perfect a person is, innocence will be the door in finding his weaknesses. However, it was the truth that Artemys could surpass anyone in [Rune Magic] if he had [Rune Magic]. That could also be the reason why Shiva asked for his help, not the [Rune Magic] user other than Kanna.

Still, it's a little weird that he chose me. One, two, or three ordinary [Rune Magic] users might be useless. But what about ten? Twenty? Though time consuming, they could certainly find a formula to fulfill Shiva's wish. There must be another reason why Shiva brought me here. What's more, from the kidnapper's actions against the black fire that triggered the opening of the sun gate, it's likely that Shiva found out about the gate.

“...What is the actual destination?”

Artemys blinked at Jenny's sudden question. Did he speak unconsciously? Was he too serious about it to the point that he unconsciously concluded his mouth in the form of a voice?

“Yes. After becoming a god, what was his goal. He should have understood that the end that awaits a god is eternity in solitude. Didn't you ask, what did Edenia think when everything wasn't there yet? If everything ends, what awaits. Being a god is for the mind that finds the essence of peace in solitude. If someone with a certain ambition becomes a god, he will definitely lose himself.”

Artemys lies are seamless without flaws. No, that doesn't mean he doesn't trust Jenny. She trusted Jenny. It's just that, to avoid unwanted things, Jenny better not need to know that Artemys has an assumption that Shiva has other goals that he does not say. And, since she could see the future, she could certainly know what Jenny would do in the future with her knowledge. Jenny's ignorance in her worries keeps the assassin away from an unwanted future.

“What does that mean Miss will agree to her request—Nona will help her become a transcendental being?”

“What we only know now is Shiva's ability to see the future. We do not know if he can act in that future freely or can only avoid the occurrence of time by eliminating/changing ‘hal’ that makes a future that is intertwined. It's good we stay here and get more information.”

What's more, I wonder if Xavier will really me—

Artemys. Something became clear in his head. Shiva knew about the black fire that triggered the opening of the sun gate. If he could see the future, he could certainly tell that the black flames could be created by purifying Xavier's black flames. Xavier could not purify his own black flames. Hernandez the Legend of Blacksmith purified the black flames with a rune formula. If Shiva wants access to the sun as well, it's clear his main target is Xavier.

The book had indeed been wiped out after the sealed pure black flame had been successfully extracted, but I remembered the formula in detail.

Artemys could deduce that as Shiva's main reason, but what if the goal was something else?

…I don't have enough information to conclude.

“How long until Shiva gets here, Jenny?” artemys asked suddenly, but she quickly blocked Jenny from answering. “No need you answer. If the future is affected by the mind, I must not think much. The more I think, review the many futures that are formed.”

This is just Artemys' assumption. However, if the future can be affected by the content of one's mind (one must think before doing something, no matter what indifference though), minimizing the content of the mind will reduce the amount of future being formed.

…This is a theory I have to try to prove, Artemys mind with a smile drawn on his lips; he really felt made to think extra while he was here. And, he doesn't hate it.
