Ch. 49 - Places to Stay
The woman let Xin Fai in, and immediately Xin Fai entered the house. The temperature inside was warmer than out there, the sky in recent days was cloudy as if to bring down rain. And sure enough, not how long Xin Fai entered the house, it turned out that it was raining heavily afterwards.
Xin Fai looked out the window, the rain was so heavy with strong winds. Xin Fai was grateful to find this house before it rained. The sound of the window opening closed making noise, one of the girls closed it in a hurry.
While their mother brought warm food and drinks in front of Xin Fai, she was still loyal to her thin smile.
"If you're hungry, eat. I'll take care of your sister for a while."
Xin Fai scratched her head while chuckling. "He's not my brother" he denied. "I found it from the woods there."
"You mean the Cursed Forest?"
"Cursed Forest?"
"The Cursed Forest is the nickname for that terrible forest, how did you get through such a dangerous place?" The woman before him was obviously in disbelief but on the other hand did not dare to consider Xin Fai to be boasting. To get to his house, of course, must pass through the forest.
"I defeated the demon rat king over there."
The two girls quietly eavesdropped from a distance while their mother watched Xin Fai with serious facial water.
The woman's breathing even stopped when Xin Fai said that.
"The demon rat king has been killed? Just be right! Both my parents were killed by him, and after decades he's finally dead too."
This time from Xin Fai's eyes, the woman was able to confirm that she wasn't lying at all. The woman introduced herself and her children.
"We've lived here for years and never had any guests. I was so surprised to see you coming from that forest..." The woman named Qiong Lin began to tell a story, Xin Fai listened carefully.
"Is there no path other than that forest?"
"Of course there is," said Qiong Lin. "But you have to travel three times as far. Only a person who has never ventured here will be trapped in that forest."
"Right, I don't know about the forest at all." Xin Fai nodded her head. If only the mouse's demon power was greater he wasn't sure he could sustain his life.
"But before, I thank you for killing that demon. That way my parents can settle down in nature..."
For Qiong Lin himself there was no point in Xin Fai lying to him, other than a miracle since the boy was able to get to where he was, Qiong Lin also felt a different air radiating from Xin Fai's body. The boy seemed to be very shining, his bright golden eyes were so striking and according to Qiong Lin himself Xin Fai had a heroic disposition.
The baby in Qiong Lin's sling cried, Xin Fai put on a worried face.
"He needs milk... Do you keep goats or cows?"
Qiong Lin smiled kindly, Xin Fai is indeed still plain-minded. It felt like Qiong Lin couldn't believe a little child like Xin Fai defeated a demon rat king alone but still his heart forced him to believe.
Qiong Lin spoke softly. "I will suckle him, while eating our simple meal. Consider it your own home..."
Qiong Lin had already entered his room and a few seconds after Lian Kaili's crying voice started to stop. Xin Fai turned her attention to a corner of the room and found one of the women's daughters looking at her in embarrassment.
"Ehm... Sorry for bothering you to eat..." He looked embarrassed, visible from his cheeks that were starting to blush. Xin Fai raised her face with a mouth full.
"Include my name Qiao Feng, and that one over there..." Qiao Feng pointed behind the room divider. "My brother, Qiao He."
The person Qiao Feng had appointed finally appeared, he bulged his cheeks while joining his brother.
After swallowing the food Xin Fai just introduced herself. "I'm Xin Fai, from Peiyu village. It's good to see you guys."
But as if he did not care about the base of his guest, Qiao Feng immediately raised a question that would fill his brain. "I heard you killed that demon rat king in the woods, is that true?" tanyanya.
Xin Fai somewhat hesitantly answered him, actually without Lang's help he would not necessarily win from the demon.
"You could say so."
"Do you have any proof? I can't believe what you said." Qiao Feng's sister cursed cynically, she didn't seem to like their guests very much.
Xin Fai smiled in response to those words, she tried not to take heart considering that Qiao He was still so young. Qiao He was two years younger than Xin Fai.
"If you don't believe it, you can go with me tomorrow to the forest. If you find any sign of a mouse demon, you can run away leaving me alone in that forest."
Xin Fai's words made Qiao He speechless, her brother whispered with a sewot gesture indicating that his sister should not offend people like Xin Fai.
"I'm sorry if I offended you." Qiao He seemed indifferent to saying so, his gaze was flat and extremely lazy. Then Qiao He woke up, moving into his room.
Qiao Feng looked at the back of his sister who had entered the room, he turned to look at Xin Fai with a stiff smile. "I'm sorry my sister, she's like that."
"It's okay, I didn't put it in my heart."
As he was about to speak more, Qiao Feng undoes his intention when he sees his mother coming while holding a baby who is now fast asleep in his arms.
"I intend to put him to sleep in my room, even if you allow it. I think he'll wake up later tonight again..."
Xin Fai understood Qiong Lin's intent, such a baby should often wake up in the middle of the night and cause a sibling. He immediately approved the proposal.
"Thank you for taking care of her for me" Xin Fai said afterwards.
Qiao Feng pointed out the empty room that Xin Fai could use to rest, while stretching his muscles Xin Fai went inside intending to break down his exhausted body.
It seemed that this trip would not go as smoothly as Xin Fai had expected. He found many problems to be solved by force, after all Xin Fai could not let that baby named Lian Kaili alone in the Cursed Forest.
But the risk, Xin Fai was forced to find out the whereabouts of Lian Kaili's parents. Xin Fai's head was getting dizzy, she chose to sleep and thought about it tomorrow.
