Ch. 53 - Lian Sheng's Cry
After successfully obtaining the items that Xin Fai wanted decided to return to the inn, but on the main street of the city there was a commotion that surrounded many people.
Xin Fai approached the crowd with curiosity and actually that direction was also heading towards her inn.
His short body made Xin Fai unable to see anything, he snorted in annoyance as his efforts at seeing what was going on were in vain. Even his feet had gotten stepped on several times, Xin Fai cussed inwardly as he saw his legs turning red.
Taking a breath Xin Fai was intending to leave the place, he walked avoiding the crowd afraid of being stepped on like earlier. But suddenly the body of a bodyguard bounced on him.
Xin Fai was overwritten by the body of the bodyguard, herself trying to get up but the other bodyguards also fell into the same place. Being overridden by two grown men really made Xin Fai's bones scream.
Seen a noble-style man looking at the two guards full of anger, his eyes filled with emotion.
"Don't joke! My wife can't die, I've hired five of the best warriors in town to escort her! Not likely.... No way!!" The man with slightly blond brown hair was about to cry, his lips quivering with his throat choked.
Slowly he shed tears making a girl who looked like him come forward stroking the man's shoulder.
"Sister, I won't believe the news either... We need to investigate this truth as soon as possible."
"Uhuk! Uhuk! Uhuk!"
Xin Fai coughed loudly under the two bodyguards, they turned to look at Xin Fai.
"There's a little boy? How come, hey move away from you he's almost flat!" Excited a guard who was being overwritten by another guard. They stepped aside regularly making Xin Fai able to catch her breath afterwards.
"I almost died silly." muttered Xin Fai stroking his chest. The two bodyguards apologized while making sure that Xin Fai was okay.
A moment came two warriors facing the two nobles. They kneel.
"Report, we have already checked the Cursed Forest as per Master's orders and saw only Lady Xia He's carriage with his bodyguards left there. The man who lived there said that the demon of the rat king who lived there had been killed."
Another officer gave the next explanation. "There we found dozens of tombs belonging to the Lady with her bodyguards. Someone had made it for him, we suspect that the person was the one who killed the rat demon king."
The noble man in front of them almost fainted hearing the report, he could not accept his wife was gone.
"What is true? Why would... Why?!" He clutched his brown hair in depression, tears just flowing down his smooth cheeks.
People around them were saddened to hear the bad news. Lady Xia He was a royal, although not a nuclear family yet she had influence in the Empire. Her husband Lian Sheng could not accept that, he still considered it a lie even this was a mere dream.
But the swordsman took out hanfu, a hair ornament with a row of white flowers owned by Xia He, which was his favorite item.
Lian Sheng accepted it with trembling hands, he shook his head still rejecting reality.
"What about my baby? Is he safe?" Lian Sheng stared expectantly after making sure the hanfu in his hand really belonged to his wife.
"We didn't find it anywhere."
"Is my baby still alive? Please, find him! I don't want to lose her after my wife, leave! Find my son bye!" Lian Sheng exclaimed loudly making the two warriors move immediately, they ran at high speed.
While the bodyguards dispersed the crowd, Xin Fai unwilling to leave his place making some of them have trouble driving him away.
"Quick go before we use force!"
Lian Sheng was about to enter his residence with a cry that he could no longer contain. His sister tried to calm Lian Sheng down but the man loved his wife's child so much, he did not expect today to lose both of his dear ones.
The commotion among the bodyguards made Lian Sheng's sister distracted, he approached Xin Fai who was now being dragged around. But the little boy did not shift a inch even though he had been pulled as hard as he could.
"What are you doing here?" The girl's face was offended because of Xin Fai. He really did not like the commotion in his residence.
Lian Sheng was about to go back inside with his face turning deathly pale like he had lost a lot of blood. The man's dim eyeballs lost the spirit of life.
"What do you mean by Lady Xia He is the owner of this thing?"
Xin Fai took out an inlay with a beautiful carving in her robe, the girl's eyes widened and immediately snatched the thing from Xin Fai's hands.
"Who are you really?!"
Lian Sheng who was previously uninterested finally exhaled seeing his sister so rowdy there. Although his entire body was limp, Lian Sheng still could not let his sister in trouble.
Lian Sheng frowned when he saw that the person in front of his sister was a boy with a simple appearance. But from the eyes of the child himself, Lian Sheng could make sure he was not an indiscriminate person.
Xin Fai's golden eyes reflected in the sunlight amazed anyone, but Lian Sheng distracted him and his eyeballs rolled on an inlay in his sister's hand.
"This--!?"
Lian Sheng looked at Xin Fai expectantly.
"Do you know anything about my son and wife?!"
"Follow me," Xin Fai said turned around without commenting much more. Lian Sheng and also his sister immediately followed with their heads filled with questions, dozens of bodyguards following them.
Lian Sheng did not mind having to walk because all this concerned the safety of his wife's child.
While his sister continued to grumble because she really did not believe fully in Xin Fai.
The gazes of the townspeople this time locked onto them, some who had met Xin Fai shut their mouths in fear considering the previous events. As Xin Fai let out a murderous aura in front of an arrogant merchant.
Until they arrived at an inn rented by Xin Fai, the innkeeper greeted them respectfully.
The innkeeper's gaze on Xin Fai changed very drastically, now he was treating the child like one from the royal family. He regretted having raised the room price too high to Xin Fai for fear that the child could not pay him.
"Let's go to my room."
