Chaptre 269. The Thick Night
The light began to dim. Alan and Dean stopped their activities. Dry and hot air immediately invaded the team. Sand-sand flying. But the team doesn't care much. Their attention was focused on Alan and Dean.
Dean and Alan fell. They are very weak now. Widuri brought a cup of immortal water closer to Dean's mouth to refresh him.
"Drink," whispered Widuri in a choked voice. The dam in his eyes was almost broken.
Marianne took care of Alan painstakingly. Soak the dried bread into a bowl of eternal water and feed it slowly.
"Don't you dare close your eyes before you finish this porridge" Marianne said.
Alan smiled helplessly. For some reason, no one wants to argue with Marianne. They always thought of her as the mother of the team, and kept her word.
While Alan and Dean were recuperating, Sunil stood guard with high vigilance. They were out in the open and unprotected by anything. If any beasts approach, Sunil will not hesitate to burn them to dust.
The atmosphere quickly began to darken. Their shadows are getting longer.
"Quickly turnaround time here!" said Leon.
"Maybe half the time on earth. Or faster than that." Dr. Chandra said.
"If those ferocious creatures don't appear during the day, chances are they'll come out when it's dark!" Indra reminded.
"I think you're right. They also take shelter from the sun during the day. Then out looking for prey when night falls." Michael supported Indra's opinion with his analysis.
"Then how...?" Niken did not continue his words.
Indra clasped Niken's hand and her eyes asked Niken to be quiet. Niken is downcast, realizing that the situation is not conducive to forcing Dean and Alan to work hard again. Both are sleeping and resting.
The safety of the team is in their hands now. There is still Sunil to guard. But as a team, they shouldn't continue to burden those three people.
Robert finally opened his voice. "We must be on guard. Hold on, until Dean and Alan recover."
The others nodded. Sunil handed over the horse-killing sword he had held to Michael.
"You're good at using swords!"
Michael nodded. The sword in hand. He was on guard with Robert and Sunil.
Leon joined in at last. He gripped a large knife to cut his fish. Everyone's alert.
Just after the black began to cross the night, the surface of the ground shook. The sound of giant footsteps clanging and shaking light objects. Even the black stone plates that Dean had been using earlier this afternoon, had shifted a little.
Everyone felt a trembling in their hearts. No exception Robert.
"I think they have a lot.." he said.
"Huhh???"
Although daunted, Michael and Leon had no choice. They have to hold on.
"Oh my God!" pekik Niken restrained.
His eyes were wide in one direction. The others followed his direction.
In the shadows of the almost pitch-black darkness, there was an incredible sight. The desert turned into a playground. Those monstrous creatures came out at the same time and ran around here and there. They chase and bite each other.
Dozens..no! Hundreds of large and small alien creatures came out simultaneously.
"If they step on us, won't we be like a crumb?" chirps Indra.
Marianne, Widuri and Niken turned to Indra with a foreign look.
"Seriously little!" niken keki's.
"Sunil, isn't it dangerous for us to be in the middle of the giant's playing field?" asked Michael with concern.
"Trus, where are you going?"
Sunil hovered higher. He can't see anything. Then he came down.
"Unseen, but can be sniffed or trampled. Without us knowing it, we could be killed for it" Niken said.
"What's more dangerous, if any of them can see by relying on our body heat image!" said Robert.
All speechless. As a former soldier, Robert learned that there was a device for the body heat scanner of living things. And in the wild, snake eyes have a similar way of working.
Sunil sighed. He didn't know where to take the team. The whole place is open. And it's full of hundreds of beasts. He thinks hard.
"What if we go to the rock? Let's find a safe place on it. Then hide until morning." Robert makes a crazy suggestion.
"Isn't that their nest?" ask Leon.
"Yes. During the day they lay there. But the night they left. So that place might still be occupied if it's night. We can make it a place to rest until tomorrow morning." Robert explained his thoughts.
"But it must be remembered, we must go when the first light of the morning, appears. That's so we can leave before the residents come back" Robert said.
"I get. When they leave, we use them to rest. Leave before they return. And early morning is more profitable. The sky was getting brighter, but the weather was not yet hot. We're safe to travel." Doctor Chandra nodded.
Robert smiled. Now, it's up to Sunil. Could or not, find the big rock cliffs in the thick of the night. Not to mention Dean and Alan who are still asleep.
"What do you think, Sunil?" ask Marianne.
"I was thinking, how do I get you into my storage room" Sunil said.
"Huh???"
No one could see what Sunil's expression was like back then. Seriously her?
"If you can, why don't you do it?" ask Niken wonder.
"I don't know if there's any air in there. During this time we only store groceries and various equipment in the storage room," explained Sunil.
"Let me try for a minute."
Michael offered to.
"Hemm. Just for a second, then I'll get you out."
Michael's hand was held by Sunil. No one saw that Michael had vanished. Sunil counted to 20, then took it back out.
"Your storage room is pitch black. I tripped over something earlier. But I can breathe well in there" said Michael.
"really?"
They whispered to each other. Hope arises.
"If you can, that's great. I'll put you in after I've cleared up everything Dean's put out."
Sunil uses the reflection of his eye light to find out the position of Dean, Widuri and Alan and Cloudy.
He touched Dean's necklace, then reinserted all the scattered mountain rocks.
Sunil touches Alan's necklace and moves the horse from his storage room to Alan's place. Now the storage room is pretty relieved. He took something out of his pants pocket and handed it to Widuri.
Widuri didn't have time to say anything. He's gone. Dean and Alan and Cloudy. Then water and leftovers.
Sunil turned around and with his eyes, he received a reflection from the body of his friends who were standing pecking.
"Widuri, are you okay inside?" sunil asked through a voice transmission to his storage room
"I'm doing fine. These light crystals are a little illuminating here." Widuri gave an answer.
Sunil still wanted to ask, as the sound of the thud and the ground vibration grew louder. And that goes to his friends.
"Damn!!"
