Chapters 31. Turned into a Wolf
Team 3 arrived at noon. From far away the people in the shelter were already shouting happily to welcome them.
"You guys finally arrived.. Hahaha," Angel waved with a bright face.
Baras approached her and hugged her happily. "Yes, clear sky. Thin fog will not block our path" Laras replied with a big smile. Then greet the other teammates there.
"Ahh, we thought we'd find an empty shelter here. Unexpectedly you guys turned out to miss me to be willing to wait," Michael ran happily and grabbed Liam and Sunil who stood side by side.
"Haha.. You're too pityed," Sunil laughed. Liam hit Michael's shoulder slowly while smiling widely. They walked together laughing.
"Rest and warm up first" Marianne invited them into the shelter.
"Why was Alex tied up and carried?" indra asked who saw Robert and Chandra's doctor carrying Alex with him tied up and hung on the wood placed on their shoulders.
"Huh?! What's going on?" The goddess also watched in wonder.
"Later to tell me. Is there another room? He's better placed apart from the others." Robert explained.
"Yes, just use the first room we made. If it's only for 1 person, it's more than enough." Indra asks Alan and Gilang to replace Robert and Chandra's doctor takes Alex to another shelter. Lena followed from behind.
Alex was put there still in a bound state. He was laid on a pile of pine leaves. His eyes are empty. But there was a hissing sound and a subtle growl from his grinning mouth exposing his teeth. His shoulders were wrapped in cloth. Lena looked at Alex with sad eyes. "Can we make a fire so we don't get cold here?" Ask Lena to Indra.
"of course. Wait I'll get the embers from there." The new senses will come out when Robert comes with a piece of wood still burning. Behind him Niken followed bringing a pot full of snow to warm up and a package of pine leaves. Indra held back the questions that were scattering in his mind. He only watches what they do.
After Robert made the fireplace, Niken put a pot of snow near the fire to quickly melt and warm. He took out a large piece of rabbit meat from a bundle of pine leaves and stabbed it with wood and placed it near the fireplace to bake it. After that, Niken hugged Lena..
"I'll go first. Later after getting other food, I'll bring it here." Lena nodded, her eyes looking sad.
Robert asked Alan and Gilang to close the shelter door by plugging wood on the snow surface. Alan and Gilang did so without asking, though they were astonished, why were Alex and Lena locked up so much? After Robert made sure the woods were strong enough, they left the place.
"Your heads must be full of questions" Robert said with a tired face but continued to step up.
"Yes. What happened to them?" Alan couldn't help his curiosity. ?Robert remained silent and continued walking towards the shelter where the other team had gathered.
"Drink first" Baras thrust a cup of warm water at Robert's return. Robert accepted it and found a place to sit. Everyone was silent with questions dancing in each other's heads.
"2 days ago on our way we passed 3 wolves. We have tried to avoid, because we would lose the ability if we had to fight against the three at once. So we chose to retreat, to stay away from the path with the clues you left behind. But ill-fated, a wolf doesn't seem to want to let go. He tried to snatch the slow-moving Lena. Alex tried to block and pat the wolf's strike by hitting his spear. The wolf fell. I who was at the front looking for an alternate path belatedly turned around when another larger gray-haired wolf snatched towards Alex who had just hit the other wolf. He was clearly not ready for the second strike. His shoulder was bitten by the strong seemed not to want to be released by the wolf. I chased and hit him in the head, then the bite on Alex's shoulder slipped off. Alex fell covered in blood in the snow. Lena screamed hysterically, it was a mess. Doctors Chandra and Michael drag Alex away from the place. We all moved away from it because the wolves wouldn't budge from it. But they didn't strike back, maybe they got hurt by my and Alex's punches." Robert paused the story to gulp down his drink.
"Setiba at the shelter, Alex was already seen half-conscious from losing a lot of blood. Doctor Chandra tried to clean the wound and bandage it as he did to me at the time. We prepared to stand guard and take turns taking care of Alex if she had a fever. He had a fever after that, and the heat was high. He wants to be unclear. But as the night wore on, he woke up. It's Michael's turn to stand guard, so just tell me" Robert pointed to Michael.
People turned to Michael who was sitting on the side almost opposite Robert.
"Yes, I'm standing guard in place of Dr. Chandra. Around midnight, Alex woke up, and sat down. A growling sound sounded from his mouth. His eyes were sharp when he saw me. For a moment I saw a wolf raising its hand to jump against me. I was surprised to retreat while shouting. Robert woke up." Michael explained.
"Then?" marianne's eyes looked impatient.
"When I woke up, I saw Michael unable to speak, his eyes glaring fearfully at Alex. Alex was still growling with a grin. And right, I also seemed to see Alex turning into a wolf for a split second and then turning into him again. Worried, I grabbed a pile of Chandra's sanitary napkin and grabbed Alex's hand, twisted and tied it. He was initially startled, late in responding, so it was too late to let go. Our struggling voices woke Dr. Chandra." Robert asked Dr Chandra to add a part of his story.
The other team members immediately turned their eyes again demanding that Chandra's doctor continue the story.
"All right.. I'll continue the story." Dr. Chandra finished the contents of the cup and placed it near the water pitcher.
"When I woke up, I saw Robert struggling with Alex, while Michael was agape in fear of not being able to speak. I'm still sleepy because I just slept, still don't know the situation. I approached the two of them to break up the fight. Well, I guess they're fighting." doctor Chandra smiled obliquely. The audience just frowned a sign of impatience with the continuation of the story.
"Hey, don't you guys need to gather food? Why sit back and listen to stories?" doctor Chandra seems reluctant to continue. The listeners look grumpy because the story of Dr. Chandra is not complete.
'Was it just that much of the story? Completely unable to answer everyone's questions, ' they grumbled inwardly.
"I didn't see Dean and Widuri. Where's them?" ask Robert too. The others soon awakened. Their attention was finally distracted.
"Widuri mired in the cave hole. His legs sprained, because it was late afternoon while he had not found a way to lift it out, so Dean decided to come down to guard it."
"Huh?! The cave?" robert and Dr. Chandra together.
"Is that the cave located?" robert immediately stood up, followed by Dr. Chandra.
"Not far. You guys want to go there now?" Indra asked to stand up. Robert nodded then walked out followed by Dr. Chandra. Indra asked the other 3 teams to rest first. While the other 1st and 2nd team members must continue their respective tasks. Some of them then left the shelter to continue the work of building additional shelters, cutting wood for the fireplace, and checking the results of traps. Although they were still curious, but their work was much more important to complete before night fell. After all, the story can still be continued at dinner.
