I looked at my reflection in front of the mirror. Tonight I will visit my father-in-law's house, Mother Dusk. They invited dinner together.
Again I smiled wryly, I can guess if the first question that will be asked by them is 'when have children?' This is the most frightening phase after marriage. Never mind having a first night child never been and I'm still a high-ting virgin that no other man has ever seen.
I came out of the room with my bag.
"Are you ready?" The stars stood when I came out.
I'm nodding. We both got in the car. All the way there was no chatter. I who was usually chatty and always found words to talk about, now just stay quiet without intention and talk to my husband. There is also a point of tiredness of a woman when her presence is not considered to be silent.
"In front of Father and Mother should be as usual. I don't want your cold face to make them suspicious."
I looked at my husband as he spoke. I thought he'd come to his senses after seeing me no longer cared. But he said a word I don't want to hear anymore.
"Yes," I said briefly densely and clearly.
Being okay in front of parents is the best art of healing wounds. For seeing their happy faces is like being tormenting themselves in the chest.
Arriving at my in-laws' luxury home. We both went down. There is no romantic scene like in movies or romance novels, where a husband opens the car door so that his wife can get off. Especially new replacements like us today. But that doesn't apply to me and the stars.
"Nara."
"Mother."
I hugged my good-natured father-in-law. Mother Dusk was very gentle and kind to me. She was a dream in-law who treated her daughter-in-law like a queen.
"How are you, honey?" her tan kissed my forehead with love.
"Nara's fine, Bund," I replied.
"Mother."
Mas Bintang also hugged Mother Dusk. According to the story I heard from Mommy, if Mas Bintang is very spoiled for his mother when it is not his biological mother.
"Come, in. Mommy has cooked special for the two of you," invite Mother Dusk to embrace my hand.
We're heading to the dining table. There was already Father Sky and Bee, his sister Mas Bintang. They welcomed us with smiles. I was also quite close to my sister-in-law. They met a few times before and after marriage.
"When do you have kids?"
Uhuk uhuk uhuk
We both coughed at the same time when we heard the question from Father Sky.
"Drink, Brother." Bee poured a glass of water on me.
"Thank you, Bee," I said, holding the glass up to the toilet.
"You guys are so nervous?" god Mother. "Wah looks like Mas Bintang tadpole has started to grow this," Mother chirped again.
We both just smiled. Didn't you know that speech really slices the heart. If her guess was true, I would probably be the happiest woman. But in fact, the speech is not in accordance with reality. Our marriage is not as happy as others are proud of and tell us, it only covers the cover of the destruction my husband has created himself.
"Just pray for the best, Mother," said Mas Bintang.
"Pray must be accompanied by effort, Son," continued Father Sky while patting his son's shoulder.
After dinner we gathered in the family room. I helped Mother Dusk make snacks in the kitchen.
"Are you and the stars okay?" ask Mommy.
"We're fine, Mother," I said, hiding the truth.
"Mother wishes you to last until death do you part. If the stars dare to mess around, do not forget to report to Mother." If only Mother knew how our home life.
"Yes, Mother. The stars are good with Nara. She always helps Nara, too" I said.
There's no way I'm telling my husband's vices to his mother-in-law. Enough Kak Rimba who know that our household is no longer saved.
"Mother's hope is always so," said Mother smiling. "Is the Star still related to Mona?" ask Mommy.
Before I married Mas Bintang, Mother had told me about my husband's lover. Their love is not blessed because according to Father and Mother, Mona is not a good woman.
Seriate...
