Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 119

“ Or they could have stabbed us,” hiss Bella.

I shook my head. “ If you die, the spell on Riana can be lost. He needs you alive.”

“ How about you?”

In my mind, the astrologer said. I saw a triangle in the storm. One side collapsed and fell, leaving the other two sides.

“ They will catch us if they stay here,” urged me. “ In the count of three, we run, one, two, three!”

We broke through the door together and met a group of armed men.

We managed to surprise them, and looking for an opportunity to escape, outside the door were twelve men forming a semi-circle— half of them on horseback and the other half standing, two men among them clasped torches, two horses neighed, making the man who was not riding away and making a gap in their fortress.

“ Run,” I yell at Bella who is still clutching the fire pitcher in her hand. He ran towards the space between the horses and was forced to swing his cane at the first man to approach him. Maybe they were only ordered to take him but not hurt him, because instead of drawing his sword, the man just ducked dodging away from him, avoiding him, the movement almost made his legs slip in the dark and forced him to rest on one knee.

I turned around, ready to catch up with Bella, and saw her being gripped by one of the men, her flame-piercing fell to the ground. The man raised Bella's body even though she was twisting and fighting like a stray cat; Bella made the man's face bleed from her nails, and I saw her teeth stuck in the man's hands. Despite that, the man remained unmoved, but suddenly shouted as a silver flash of light spinning in the air approached him from the direction of the forest. A few seconds later the man dropped Bella to the ground, a dagger stuck on his left shoulder. Bella rolled over when she fell, then stood up and ran into the forest towards the dagger. From the darkness, I heard a voice shouting, “ Over here!”

Maybe I'll make it too, but the sound makes me fall in shock. Devan? My mind was in a daze as something pushed me and made me fall to the ground. Then the second spell hit me, the real version of the spell I was trying to use on the soldiers. My muscles are locked in place so I can't even turn my head.

“ Go,” I said in a hoarse voice, unsure whether Bella heard me or not, just before my mouth was locked tightly.

“ Find them,” snaps another familiar sounding voice, a voice I have heard too often in my nightmares over the past few days. “ He knows the forest, so hurry up, before they go too far.” A moment later, the horse's legs moved toward the corner of my eye. I could not look up, but I did not need to; even as my head was bowed and my eyes were shadowed by the darkness, I knew who was sitting on the horse.

“ Hello, Amelia,” Melani Enderson said.
