Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 73

Devan, finally thought of me. Devan isn't a witch or a member of the royal family, but he's my friend. And he's the one who, I hope, will trust me. For now, that should be enough.

Feeling as weak as a newborn foal, I came out from a hiding place among the bushes, returning to one of the paths that ran through the palace gardens. But the gardens, which usually look very beautiful in my eyes as if filled with dark places that can be used as a place to lurk by anyone or anything without being discovered. I felt unprotected as I walked towards the Devan family residence. Whoever is using the shield is playing a dangerous game, and I have no reason to believe that person will not hurt anyone who knows it. My neck was goosebumps as I passed some gardeners at work, so I ducked, trying to go unrecognized. I wish I had the strength and control to put a vision shield on me, but I don't have one.

Finally, it felt like it had been hours, I entered the place I was heading to and turned twice towards Devan's room. Now he has a private room, not in his family residence but still connected. I glanced around and, after not seeing anyone, knocked on the door aloud four times. I also sent a thank you to the Nameless God because Devan did not allow the family servants to accompany him at night. At least I don't have to worry about obstacles to meet him.

Devan took a few moments to answer, long enough for me to move the pedestal from one foot to the other nervously as I opened the door.

“ Amelia?” Devan asked confusedly, while gnawing at me.

“ Let me in,” I said breathlessly, then stepped in Without waiting for him to give way. “ Close the door!” my insistence after turning around and seeing Devan still standing glued, the door half opened.

Devan's face looked irritated, but he closed the door. Devan was still wearing a long sleeping shirt, and his bare feet shriveled on the cold stone floor. “ I think we are hostile,” Devan said. “ Did you come to apologize for acting like a..” Devan flicked his shoulders, clearly looking for the right word..” A princess?”

My jaw was open, just a little. Amidst the overflow of spirit, I really luoa maybe Devan won't be happy to see me. “ I... yes, no... i,” I said stuttered, my tongue feels muddy and useless “ I mean..”

“ That's what?” sela Devan while pointing at the map that I still hold.

I've forgotten it too. “ Maps King Ardan. I translated it, the part that we couldn't read before, but that's not it..”.

“ You translate it?” Devan's irritation was slightly reduced as the familiar mischievous glint made his eyes sparkle.

“ I can't believe! What's it all about?”

“ Devan, please, listen...”.

“ What does that mean we can find it?”

“ May, but..”.

“ We can go now! I change clothes first.”.

“ She is not a princess!” i'm yelling.

Devan was grabbing the knee-length pants hanging on the back of the chair, but his outstretched hands suddenly stopped, his face looking confused. “ What?”

My breath was heavy, wheezing, and darkness began to dance in the corners of my eyes. After dropping the map onto Devan's bed, I grabbed an elbow trying to stop my trembling arm.
