I finally decided to visit the pharmacy. In the street of many people; that man could not have kidnapped me, if that was what he planned. What'd he do it for? I argue in my heart. Who wants to kidnap me or even follow me? I'm not an important person, not anymore.
The pharmacy was on a street near the campus that housed several other shops frequented by witches. The owner, whose body was tall enough that I had to stick out my neck to see it clearly, filled my jar and received the money without saying much. I thanked him, then peeked at the window before leaving. I didn't see the guy anymore, which made me think maybe I was just making it up.
You're being ridiculous, my mind. Control yourself and go home.
However, when I got out of the store I forgot to look for the man on the street, because suddenly my attention was distracted by a very strange sensation. It felt like I was a strappy doll, and there was someone pulling the rope, pointing my head as they wished. I couldn't stop myself from turning left. For a moment I saw nothing but a deserted road, then there was someone coming out from behind the shadow of a nearby building. Not the guy who was following me, or maybe not. This man was wearing a long brown robe, and his cut reminded me of the clothes worn in a monastery. There was a memory that tickled my mind, but before I could remember it, the man opened his hood, and I nearly dropped a jar filled with fig seeds.
We're not alike, not too. It may be similar enough to be a cousin, but not to be a twin brother or even a sister. Diana was taller than me, and had longer limbs, her hair was light brown, while my hair tended to be more like the color of dark tea, her face intersected more firmly, her nose was sharper and her hair was more intense & her eyebrows are more curved, her lips full and pink in color. There was indeed a resemblance, but it felt like staring at myself above the surface of the water, with the parts already being changed by the waves.
We looked at it for a very long time, then I said, “ We can draw attention if we keep standing here. & I suspect only Devan knows where you are, so you wouldn't want that to happen.”
A slight hue appeared beautifully on Diana's face. “ Then will you walk with me? tanyakanya.
We walked silently, each stealing a glance from the corner of the eye, before I said, “ I think there is a statue of Queen Caroline, on the corner of the street. He's the one..”.
“ Grants land for magician campus,” Diana finishes my speech. Upon seeing my surprised expression, he gently raised his shoulders. “ I was well educated at the convent, & better since living here. Looks like they want me to know everything you have to know a princess, & they think I should know it as soon as possible.”.
Silence again, this time it felt even more tense. “ There is a bench,” I said. “ We can sit there.”
“ Show the way,” Diana said.
The statue of Queen Caroline is located in a small dead end area not far from the road. The statue was sized like the original, or close to. The queen was staring at the witch campus, her hands outstretched as a gesture of giving. Diana stopped as we walked towards the bench placed around the statue, her head looking up to stare at the face made of stone. It's hard to be sure, because the statues are over two hundred years old, but I think you can see similarities, especially to their sharp cheekbones. I'm sighing.
