Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 47

That day I came out of the study feeling cheerful, but if I had guessed my other lessons would have been as easy as that first lesson, then I would have been wrong. In the other hand, magic lessons demand more from what I originally thought; all spells, even minor spells, drain my energy. Paula says I'll get stronger if I practice and try harder spells, just like someone's arm gets stronger from lifting heavier weights and getting heavier.

“ All there is a price,” Paula says relax. “ Magic is just like anything else, you have to give something to see the results. In this case, a little bit of your energy in each manta. But the number will continue to decrease, once your abilities improve. All that means..well, maybe not all, but most of it means. You should practice more.”.

So I practiced too. I froze the water and liquefied it again, lit the fire by just staring at the fireplace, and called the wind to blow the feathers of the fowl around the study. I grind herbs for clear eyes, try fortune telling, walk all the way to the countryside Vivaskari with Paula to collect various herbs for her experiments.

Paula had me read, & sometimes copy, long sentences from various books & scrolls of magic documents. His library was filled with such books, as well as the history of magic books in Thorvaldor and the surrounding lands.

Paula also gave me books on the rune letters that ancient witches used. He told me that the letters had been in little demand for the past few hundred years, but a witch should be able to read them, because many ancient texts used them.

I think it would be easier if I had a more conventional teacher. But Paula's teachings, like everything else about her, are disorganized and often unrelated, so we start from transformation spells to strengthening & mantras & the mind control matrix then goes back to the beginning without a clear plan or reason. When fixated on one topic, Paula explains it clearly and precisely, but her tendency to change subjects suddenly often leaves me three steps behind.

Feels weird. In my life there are only a few things related to learning that I cannot understand quickly and easily. Yeah, one of them dipped, but the other one wasn't much. However, after the first success in freezing the trophy, I had to fight hard to achieve all the progress. The spells turned against me or didn't work at all. & which made me even more desperate, my body still casts magic whenever I get upset, just like it did outside Jose's house & campus fountain.

One day Paula said after I accidentally destroyed one of the legs of her study desk, “ you know, if your magic is not too big.”

“ Not too big?” I asked confused. “ Even now I can barely use any spell.”

“ But, you know, the problem is not the amount of magic in you,” error Paula. “ Like I said on campus; you're obviously filled with magic. So much so that everything tries to come out every time you say a spell, and sometimes the magic decides to come out on its own, whether you call it or not. To be honest, I rarely see this much magic. & since it is so numerous, you strangled her while trying to control it.”
