After everything was done, I went home to Paula's. They must have made room for me in the palace, given me one full wing if I asked for it, but it feels wrong if I stayed there. I want to make sure the healer comes. I wanted to tell my teacher what was going on. After all, amidst the chaos that had ensued after the event of the near coronation, there were only a few people who were aware of my departure. The queen, who squeezed my hand without speaking. Bella, who left the witches, nobles, and counselors to approach me.
“ You didn't say you'd bounce me,” grunt.
“ I didn't realize. I didn't know I could do it, until it happened.”
Bella raised an eyebrow. “ Great magic, for someone who could barely disguise us this morning.”
I put my shoulders tired. After casting that much magic, I felt ready to collapse, “ it was inside me. That piece of your soul. So that's me. And that means arguably, you and.”I gulped. “ You and Riana, you two are me too. We're all the same. That's almost impossible for anyone else, other than Melani and Omar. But bouncing yourself is very easy to do. And I thought.. well, I thought I wouldn't lose anything.”.
We looked, deliberately not staring at the podium where Riana fell. None of us said I was wrong, that something was missing.
“ I will visit you,” said Bella before she called again. “ Don't think I won't do it.”
No one else saw me leave. Only Devan, who hugged me tightly without saying anything, then let me go. He always knew what I needed, even more than I did.
At Paula's house, I found her lying in bed, wrapped in ointments and healing spells. Echoes received such treatment but not that intense, and he recounted the incident to the servants and butlers who had returned home. I checked the situation of the two of them, told the butler to warn the city guards about the presence of two begundal individuals who might still be watching this house, then slept.
Paula, in her original stubborn figure, woke up on the second day, wrapped in a blanket over one of her study chairs and giving a briefing to clean the room. He sniffed the air when he first saw me, then smiled.
“ Something changed,” he said. “ I can feel it, and know no, I'm never wrong about this kind of thing.”
“ I know,” I replied with a smile. “ And it has changed.”
“ Good,” is all that Paula said. Then he asked me to clean the study using magic, not my hands.
Paula's right. Something has changed. I feel.looser, more relaxed being myself. The magic that I had been trying to control, and had exploded into chaos, seemed to have calmed down inside me. The magic is there, and sometimes insists on being used, but more peacefully.
