Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 87

My face was blushing as I thought about it, definitely caused by the strangeness of this place, the frightening silence, and the unmoving figure on the podium. I haven't held hands with Devan since I was eight. Even so, the thought was enough to rip me apart to break the spell that was imprinted on me, and I took the first step towards the astrologer.

The woman was not old yet, I realized it as I approached. I expected to see a woman with wrinkled hands and gray hair, but it seemed that she was no more than thirty years old, her facial skin and hands were smooth and pale. She sat with her legs folded, a long plain white dress dangling around her body. Her hair was a bit blond, and was scattered to the floor. His eyes were blue, almost imperishable.

Licking my lips, I knelt down, letting my body rest on my calves, my neck goosebumps. I heard Devan do the same thing, but couldn't take his eyes off the diviner's face. Her face remained stiff, not moving like the rest of her body, and I knew she didn't see me.

The fortuneteller slowly opened his eyes and I felt his attention suddenly on me, returning from nowhere to what he had just been.

“ Greetings, daughter - who-be,” greet the request.

“ What?” The word sounds like a joke. Next to me, Devan is tense. “ You know who I am?”

The woman nodded. “ I saw you, three days ago. You're riding in the hills, with a broken crown on your head. Don't fret. I won't report it.” with a smile.

“ You know we're coming?” my many.

“ I still see the crown. You haven't gotten rid of him. But you don't wear them anymore. The crown is in your hands, as if you were saving it for someone else.”

I should have been horrified to know that she could see me, motivate me, very clearly. But it didn't; it was like staring into a very clear mirror for the first time. “ That's why I came. I want...” I swallowed spit. “ I want to know about his prophecy, which was made for the princess at birth. But you didn't make it, and Brother Saint wouldn't let us see the file of the fortune teller who did it. Royal family...”

My voice, which was already slow, grew so slow that it only sounded as a whisper. All my fears had disappeared; for some reason, I knew I could tell this woman. “ They were betrayed. I feel like all this has something to do with the prophecy, but I have to read it, find out whatever I can get.”

The fortuneteller tilted his head, then shook it sadly. “ I can't ask the chief monk to change the rules that have been in place for centuries.”

“ But please, you understand—“

The astrologer raised a finger, then lowered the hand to his neck . She pulled a long silver chain from behind her dress, at the end of which hung a silver key. Upon seeing my confused expression, the clairvoyant smiled. “ I can't ask them to change it. I'm just a fortune teller— before I have many fortune tellers and there will be many other fortune tellers after me. But I saw myself handing over this key to you, before you even arrived.
