Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 138

I just walked a few steps towards the door while slowing down in confusion. The small castle courtyard behind this house was very quiet, even with a commotion on the street. Where was the sound of Echoes humming from the kitchen window? Where did Orion who usually rushed out take over our horse?

I heard Bella and Devan coming down from their horse, then rushed over. “ Where are those?” my many.

Devan observes the deserted house. “ Could Paula give them a day off? And he himself attended the coronation?”

I licked my lips. “ First guess—maybe. Second guess—“ I put my shoulders. “ Paula doesn't like crowds. She might be attending it, as a college witch, but it won't be this early. He would wait until the last second, then sneak behind Devan.” I let my words hang. I didn't need to utter the worry I felt, I could see the same thoughts radiating on their faces.

“ We still need the map,” Devan said. “ And new clothes no harm. Something that could make you both look worthy of being at the coronation event.” Devan himself, despite not wearing the clothes that should have been used at the coronation, at least this morning had changed his clothes with clean clothes that he carried in the saddlebag. My clothes are gone with the hired horse at March Holdings. “ Bella is smaller than you, but not too far.”

“ They keep my best clothes, but everything here is still better than this,” I said as I snatched away my dirty clothes from travel and prison. We won't look worthy of attending the coronation, even in the best clothes I have, but we won't look like street kids.

“ My neck felt bristled as I stared at the house, but then I shook my head. We can't delay any longer. “ We have to go.”

Inside the house is even quieter. I shuddered as I walked towards the main staircase without seeing anyone there. Even though my shoulder hurt so much, I tried to calm myself down that everything was fine, that the feeling of being watched was only my shadow. I almost managed to convince myself when we arrived on the second floor, and I heard a groan.

It turned out to be Echoes, the cook. While gulping with difficulty, I turned her body as slow as possible, and saw a large blackish purple bruise on the side of her face. I raised my trembling hand towards Echo's nose, and felt a faint puff of his breath on my finger.

“ Paula,” I gasp while staggering to my feet. “ Workspace.” I came to the door a few feet away, blood roaring in my ears. The door of the study room opened slightly, and I opened it so firmly that it hit the inner wall.

Most of Paula's workspace has not changed. The table was filled with open bottles filled with liquid, nothing was rolled over, still standing by the door. Snake skin, fowl feathers, bird nests, and animal claws lay in a corner where Paula kept them. Books were scattered all over the room, but only in a lying-after-read state. After taking a quick look at it, there was nothing wrong in this room.

I walked into the room, and my boots stepped on the glass. I looked down and saw a shard of glass, as if someone had thrown some divination cup at someone near the door. As my eyes followed in his footsteps, I saw one of the tables rolled over, a puddle of blue potions mixed with sand splattered all around.
