Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 80

I lowered my chin and propped it up on my hands, elbows resting on my knees. We were forced to look for clues as to the identity of the shielded figure elsewhere.

“ She's gone, are you sure? And there's no way to get in the room?”

While wiping the drops of water my glass left on the table, I nodded my head. “ After college I slipped away, telling Paula I wanted to get some fresh air as long as she chatted with her friend. I ran across the campus to his room. I told his secretary I sent Omar a message, but the man told me to leave. Same story, as Arsen.” tells

I bent down, distancing both shoulders to relieve muscle tension. Two days have passed since the witch's college, and I haven't been able to sleep well. I kept dreaming about a girl with no face calling out to me, and though I had fallen through the fields, roads, and mountains to get to her, I had no success.

Devan threw his cup on the table in annoyance. “ Are you sure he's telling the truth? He could have lied to you.”

“ I doubt the whole campus is involved. If it was Omar, he wouldn't have told anyone.”

“ Well, this is indeed suspicious, right? ask Devan. “ He left right after the events you witnessed. Maybe he used too much magic while renewing the spell and wanted to hide it from everyone. Or maybe he's afraid someone might see him and want to hide for a while.”

“ Can be.” I don't know how much energy it would take to renew the spell, especially specifically for one person. Devan's right, this looks suspicious.

The front legs of Devan's chair were raised from the floor as he leaned far back, with his head turned to the ceiling. “ Autumn. At that time anything can happen.” The chair leg hit the floor again as Devan bent down. “ And I didn't manage to get anything from Riana. She doesn't even remember having weird dreams last night.”

“ Not even a mouse saw it. Youre right. Whether Omar or Melani, they do it very carefully.”

Devan hooks the fingers and bends them until they crackle. “ Well, if we can't search Omar's room, what about Melani's room?”

I bit my lips, thinking, but finally shook my head. “ At least on campus, I can bring something from Paula, and if caught confessing to delivering it to Omar. You know, pretending to be stupid, like I didn't know that I shouldn't go in her room.

Maybe she can take it, especially if I wait until Paula really wants to send something for her. But what can I say if I get caught in Melani's room? Other than at the palace events, you've never chatted more than three words with her. After all, Melani has the entire Sare family to copy the evidence in any plan. He won't take her to the palace, where his little-known servants clean his room every day.”

Devan grimacing. “ So what should we do now?”

I leaned against the body with a lunglai. All around us the inn was boisterous and brightly lit, the yellow glow of lanterns twinkled on the walls, the people were tired and happy, their long day was over. It makes me want to crawl under the table. I don't know what to say to Devan. It's too heavy; I have to report it to Paula, or the king and queen, or any adult who would listen.
