Devan has very low patience to sit while reading. Even so he followed me, protesting all the time. When I told him he didn't have to come along, Devan just put his shoulder around and followed me. But it's not strange we're friends, we do it all together. Devan drags me into things I wouldn't do without him, gets me out of my shy, closed frame, and I make sure he reads books every once in a while.
I want to read a book about the history of Thorvaldor's magic. The volume I wanted that discussed history over a span of five hundred years but contained theories of magic that are now considered outdated, located on the shelf of a small space at the very back of the library, stored in a collection of scrolls & the map is outdated even though I have not had any magic for four hundred years no member of the royal family has any magic I am still amazed to make. Not that I have enough time to devote myself to it, there are always more pressing matters for a princess to learn. However, I read whatever I could read, even when I did not understand all the contents.
I was sitting in front of a low table placed under the window, trying to understand the mysterious sentences, when I suddenly heard a bump and & looking up just as the ash rain drifted from the small room where I found the book. I glanced around, sure to see a librarian rushing in to investigate, but nothing. So I quickly walked into the room and saw Devan standing in a knee-high pile of documents and books.
“ I was just looking around,” protest Devan before I had time to say anything.
“ The book fell by itself! “
Pouting at him, I pointed at the pile of books. “ Help me clean up all this before Leonas comes.” Leonas is the chief librarian of the palace, and a man who has his own opinions on how to treat books, even books that no one has touched in years.
We worked quickly, keeping our eyes on the door, and there were only three books left to return when I suddenly fell silent. One of the scrolls fell in an open state, a ragged thread. The one that tied it broke when it hit the floor, and showed a picture of the palace grounds. At first, I only saw the writing around the picture, but something caught my eye, and when I looked closer, I had to gulp to keep from gasping.
“ Return the books to the shelf,” I ordered.
Devan, who grasped the last two books, saved them to the top of the shelf “ What is it?”
“ I'll tell you later,” muttered. My legs were shaking from this discovery, and I wish I could get out of the library without falling or tripping over something.
“ Are you not going to return it?” Devan asked as we passed the table I had used to read, my book still lying there, but he fell silent as I glared at him. We paused behind a shelf near the entrance waiting for a librarian to pass, then slipped out. The front gaze never turned away from me, unlike me, Devan barely needed to concentrate on walking without attracting attention, given the various tricks he used. Finally, when we had crossed three corridors, Devan was amused.
“ I heard that even the princesses are not allowed to pick up books from the library without Leonidas.”'s permission
“ Do you really want to lecture me about breaking the rules?” my many. My heart was pounding, because of the thrill of my discovery and because of my determined actions. But Devan was right, I've never done anything like this. All this time, Devan dragged me into mischief. Before I was a good girl, quiet, and obedient to the rules.
The princess is perfect, except for the sometimes outrageous awkward & shy nature.
Devan grinned, his eyes sparkling.
“ So What is it?”
I couldn't prevent a similar grin gripping my own face.
“ I think this is the royal door of King Ardan.”
