“ That's not true,” I shouted, but Melani already spoke again, her dark voice sounded very calm and cradled.
“ Your Majesty,” Melani said as she lowered her head towards the old queen. Then look at Riana. “ Daughter. Thorvaldor. Which is more trustworthy? An evil plan that I've had you for sixteen years? That made me kill my own sister, fake my own son's death. Plans that I ran alone, without knowing a single person.” Melani smiles. “ My fellow magicians at college can tell you I'm smart. But I'm not that smart.
“ So... which is more trustworthy? This strange story, or some other answer? That this girl, half-crazy due to her tumbling world—indeed, a sad story, but done for the good of this country—until come here and try to interfere with the coronation?”
The murmurs sounded louder as people stuck out their necks in order to look at me more clearly. “ I've come to Siderros,” I scream beat the noise. “ I've seen the astrologer's handwriting. Now I bring his confession.” That's no use. It seems that no one is listening to me. “ We enter through King Ardan's Door. Only a true princess can do it!”
“ Fantasy again,” replied Melani. “ You came with Devan Dulchessy, who proved willing to do anything for you, because he's been caught up in your ruse for years.”
“ She has a birthmark,” I shouted, while moving forward to pull Bella forward, I snatched her arm and lifted her into the air. “ Princess's birthmark.”
“ A trick,” Melani says relax. “ Tricks you've prepared, Amelia.”
They don't want to believe it, my mind in despair. It's too heavy, too hard, and Melani is too great.
I realized we had failed. In a moment, someone will call a guard who will arrest us on charges of treason. I have to do something, but what? Now no one can hear me in the middle of screaming— no one wants to hear me. I've run out of options.
I looked at Bella who quickly went up to the stage to avoid Melani approaching her towards Riana who seemed to be glued to her place. There were now three men holding Devan, and her body was swaying as she tried to break free, her eyes moving from Bella to Riana and then to me. Devan, who was supposed to be on the side of the nobility, dressed in his best clothes, was ready to make a fuss at the soon-to-be-executed banquet. The place he should be, if not for me. Instead, Devan was on my side, inside a strange triangle consisting of Riana, Bella, and me.
