Fake Princess

Fake Princess
CHAPTER 56

My face feels swollen, like when holding back a cry. “ Example?

Devan shook his head and raised his shoulders. “ Things you did. What are you.” He smiled at me, but a weak smile. “ I did not tell you that you are careless, you cannot walk without hurting yourself.”

I tried to respond casually, and stuck my tongue out at Devan, but I did it half-heartedly.

“ At first I felt like I betrayed you. I don't want to like it. But then I thought, well, you two are actually in the same position.& I wish there was someone who was nice to you, so I thought I should be nice to her.”

“ Oh, yes,” I said sour. “ She suddenly became a princess & I was suddenly a nobody, & we were in the same position.”

“ Well, indeed,” Devan said more emphatically than I thought. “ You both didn't expect it. He was confused too. Everyone was trying to make her happy, no one was actually chatting with her. She needs a friend.”

I wanted to yell at Devan, or maybe get on the bed and cover my ears with a blanket, but I just ducked down. I felt a little embarrassed that I was jealous. Jealous of Devan liking Diana, assuming that, though a little, could replace me. Is this how Devan felt when I showed off Jose in Treb, feeling cold at the same time? But I've been trying to be hateful, and Devan isn't. Even in the midst of this pain, I had to admit the difference. Even so, it did not prevent me from saying, with a slight frown, “ Would you rather be with him now? If you want, you can go. I'm sure in the palace there is a more interesting event than here.”

“ Actually there is a show show,” said Devan “ There is a group of Farvasee actors who stay at the palace. Tonight they are performing a new comedy, it should be pretty good.”

I could feel my forehead wrinkling as I stared at my lap stubbornly.

“ By a God Without a Name, sometimes you are like a stupid cow.”

I straightened my head. “ How dare” bursts me, but Devan shakes his head & smiles.

The sincerity of Devan's voice made me realize how stubborn I was in his eyes. “ Sorry,” muttered.

“ It's okay,” Devan says relax. “ I've been waiting for you to ask before this.” Long enough we sipped a drink without making a sound, then Devan added,” But I think he already suspected you were here. The day he said something that made me question him.”

I gulped, not wanting to show how scared I was. “ Will he report it?” my many. “ I don't want. Where I am, that I am here. Somehow.”

“ I don't think so. Even so, I wouldn't be surprised if he came looking for you. I think he has a question for you.”

And that's a problem I didn't even consider before. I don't know if I want to talk to Diana, I'm not sure if I'm ready to find out about it. But I've messed up enough tonight, so I just said, “ Well, we'll see when it happens.”

However, it's not that simple. At our next meeting, Devan and I had an argument about it.

“ He already knows,” Devan told me.

We were sitting in the garden behind Paula's house, when Devan told me, while observing the fountain that splashed into the pool at its base.
