I managed to use three spells that, although they did not change us completely, could disguise our faces so as to trick someone who did not know us well. However, using a spell made me nervous; I accidentally scorched a patch of grass around my feet before finally managing to curb his magic. But, inwardly, we should be able to enter the city without being discovered, and go to Paula's house to retrieve the map.
Don't mind me who still has no next plan, when we arrive at the palace.
I put away the thought that—my stomach felt more and more wrapped around thinking about it— as Devan approached the guard at the gate. The man, a tall and burly man, looked overwhelmed by the sheer number of people trying to enter the city, and although Devan's sword hung down his waist, only stared at Devan at a glance before waving a hand telling him to enter.
One already, my inner self, while resisting the urge to turn back over the shoulder to look for Bella.
I'm guessing for sure the guards will realize there's something wrong with me. I felt so weak and nervous that I had to grip the saddle with one hand as the family lining up in front of me was being examined. But the guard only glanced at me. If the spell were still attached, the man would see an old blonde girl, wearing a dress with a shoemaker's union crest. My skills haven't been enough to sustain him for long. It might last an hour, since I cast the spell. However, it seems like my spell still survives, because the man allowed me to pass.
Inside Devan had been waiting for me not far from the gate, close enough that we could still quickly reach it should we be forced to do so. The two of us turned around on each other's horses and watched, with our hands clutching the reins, as Bella approached the gate.
Bella had trouble controlling her horse; a screaming baby behind her made the horse jump nervously, but she managed to calm him down upon arriving in front of the guard. The man looked at her, then nodded, and I heard Devan sigh in relief.
Devan advanced his horse at the same time I got off the saddle. Had I been forced to use magic, I would not have had to do it while controlling a horse. As a carriage stopped in front of him, his coachman stared at the road with a puzzled expression, as if he did not know where to go. Devan won't be able to get to Bella in time.
Bella turned around slowly, her face not showing any expression. The guard walked up to him, reaching out to take over the horse's harness. He said something to Bella, would hand something to her. Bella nodded and the man turned around to return to the gate.
“ Call an apple,” Reset Devan, then exhale hard which turns into restless laughter.
“ Enough,” as. “ His coronation starts in two hours. We have to get to Paula's house.”
It took us longer than usual to cross Guildhall towards Goldhorm. The city was crowded by immigrants, and it seemed like all the residents of the city decided to go out into the streets. I considered leaving the horse and proceeding on foot, but Devan rode his horse, and I doubt he would leave it on the road. However, when I arrived at Paula's stables, I almost dropped the body from the saddle so hurriedly down.
