"What's wrong. That's understandable. Cry as much as you can." He patted my shoulder. I hid my face in the folds of my knees.
"He's still good to you, isn't he."
"Yes, she thought I was just a sister. Of course he's good. Only it felt so disappointing to only be considered a sister, after I thought her attention was too ..." I don't want to talk anymore, it's so disappointing.
"Many things are uncertain now. Maybe he still needs time. You know things are hard right now." I cut it right away.
"Not to comfort me Gilbert, I know what my own consequences are."
"I'm just saying my thoughts, I don't think a man would bother to do something if he didn't mean it. I don't know if I still feel like you still have hope."
"He took responsibility for seeing my brother. We've known him since we were kids." I explained the truth.
"really? If so, well maybe he does want to be that limited. Sorry this didn't work for you."
I've spoken blatantly, if until now he let me, then it means that nothing is expected anymore.
Tonight I'm happy to cry and accept the truth. Someone who has no heart with me.
I was really unlucky.
The next morning I woke up with red eyes. I promised to accept the result before this . Whatever the outcome I won't hate James. Even though I've been crying all night, nothing's gonna change this morning.
But today my mom called me. I lifted it with pleasure. Wish the phone would entertain me a little.
"Mom's? Can you get cell phone access?" Which gets limited mobile phone access now. Only important personnel, otherwise you can only send and receive messages that are delivered sometimes long. Fortunately because I was James' primary assistant I got my cell phone access.
"Yes today I signed up to call you. Jen, are you there okay? He said the area where you work is dangerous."
"We're dealing with infected Mom, clearing Florida, this is a tough part, but we have security protocols. And the cure worked." I told him a long story to calm his worries.
"Yes said people are likely all over the U. S. will become green zones in the near future. We have the medicine of thanks. Maybe you can go back home again, Jen."
"should've Mom. We haven't seen each other in almost two years, I miss you so much."
"Mom misses you, luckily Mom knows you have James to see you there. Your brother's friend, you're lucky to see him again. Mom talked to him yesterday and said you're okay. Don't worry about you..."
"Yes Mom, I'm fine. You there do you lack anything? You don't have to call James he's busy."
"You always say everything's fine. You don't want Mom to worry, Mom wants to know what's going on. Mom's in town safe, everything here is fine. You don't have to worry, Mom, who's always worried about your job. You're in a pioneer town, food is limited, conditions are dangerous, so Mom knows you've been in danger several times, but you're in the military, it's a risk, if somehow the delivery service is still there, Mom will send something to you. Mom got the story that in the pioneer city it was eating according to the existing crops, most of you grow potatoes and vegetables, do not have bread, flour. Only fish and poultry if you're lucky. Can you eat."
