Some refugees have been passed on to doctors, nothing seems too worrying. A female refugee caught my attention, some bruised scars that didn't seem to disappear completely.
"Miss, you're hurt, are you okay?" He was surprised I greeted him. Other than on his face was another mark on his hand. He was following a man. I'm sure he was subjected to violence by following the man.
"Ehm I'm fine...."
"You're hit?" I saw that blue-yellowish rash that was almost gone. That woman is young, I think she's only in her early 20s.
"It just fell." He covered it with fear.
"You can say anything to me, this city has 4 districts now, plus 3 additional divisions under military and medical. If you get here, I can protect you from the men who are arbitrary to you and separate you from him. The law of the jungle doesn't apply here nobody can be arbitrary to women..." He looked at me uncertainly.
"What if he kills me, my brother will be alone." He just wanted to protect his sister. I've guessed this. Not just once a case like this happens. But if you've entered a safe city something like this won't happen again.
"Where's your sister?"
"He's outside, not coming with me. But he's in our group. He's only 13."
"Let's say, you ask your sister to come with you now, I'll put you in the medical support group. They have their own place and you're out of your group."
"really?"
"true."
"I'll bring him here soon."
"Find me on the right wing, right next to the blue-painted lobby. Okay, what's your name?"
"Donna, thank you Miss Nurse..."
"My name is Jennifer, you can call me Jen, I'm the head nurse for the day shift."
"Thank you very much, I'll work hard, here. Whatever my brother's from is safe."
"You'll be safe, don't be afraid, from now on if he comes to you and threatens you don't be afraid anymore. I'll tell the head of your unit her name is Maria." He nodded and thanked me again.
"Just calm down, I'll beat up anyone who dares to bother him." Maria as the person in charge of our support team is doing her job.
I'm glad he and his sister looked relieved at the time. I can't imagine what they went through out there to get here.
Back to my desk in front. The man who was with him looked for the woman. He came to our table.
"You see the woman sitting in the waiting room?" I approached him directly.
"You mean Donna, she's already in charge of the medical support division, so she'll report to your own district to accept the assignment." Refugee districts are usually under the supervision of construction division soldiers.
"He's with me. How you guys just moved it." The bouncer man immediately protested.
"It's a safe city under military command, everything that happens here according to military rules. And as head nurse I have the right to choose people for my support team." I'm not gonna knock Donna straight into the trouble that she's complaining to me.
"This is unacceptable!"
"You have to accept it. That rule applies in this city, and any safe city district in the USA."
In order to keep the general order of all the cities and their inhabitants governed by the military, no one can escape that rule if you enter the military city. All residents in the city are safe in the presence of martial law and police who maintain the survival of their respective cities. Most of the big cities collapsed that could survive even the small cities beside it.
"He has to be with me! What right do you have to govern where he will be placed. Did he approve of you putting him there?!"
"That's my right."
"Nonsense, I'll find him!" He's still pointing at me.
"If you dare call me military security, let's see you or military security who have a fists harder, if you dare to challenge the orders of the military authorities here." Let's see who can be more insistent now.
The man's gone. I reported to the security of our division as a precaution even though Maria must have reported. I don't think he's gonna give up that fast.
He must still be trying to annoy Donna.
