After the era of infected crisis was over, I felt my soul was half gone. A lot of things happened during the chaos in Ottawa and everything was so fast. There was no infection in Ottawa.
The day may be one year after central US cities fell into the black zone. The first source of infection may be water so it goes mass in Ottawa. And it happened very quickly in just 48 hours almost half the city was infected.
Never had I felt the greatest fear in my life, the city's communications network was cut off entirely. When Eliza and Albert were in Montreal, they told us to leave immediately, the city was isolated, within a few hours a number of infected went around hunting people on the streets. Even Mark was infected in our last communication.
"You may not be infected, you must reach the Ottawa border, they must have established isolation before releasing you. Albert and Eliza must be trying to find you if you reach isolation camp." Mom and Dad are already showing signs of being infected, their body temperature goes up uncontrollably, their head hurts, in the next 24 hours they might already be something different. I don't know why I'm not infected, it seems my immune system has better defenses.
"What about you guys." I don't want to leave them.
"Foolish boy, what can we do again." Mom hugged me and tried to hold back her tears. "You can't be here, you have to go now. Mom knows it's not easy, you have to reach the border before things get worse."
"This brings everything, you have to reach the border..." Dad gave me a bag containing three rifles and all the bullets we had. There was a little money and food in that bag.
"The city is in military isolation Monic, communication channels are all cut off, Eliza is not allowed in, even Uncle David can not give an exception. You have to fight to reach the border yourself. You have to reach Eliza, she's waiting for you there she's on her way to the border to pick you up. You, Eliza and Albert are safe in Montreal, Mom and Dad are okay as long as you all survive. You're a brave father, you three survived, Dad and Mom don't have any regrets. It's a matter of fate like this, we're old, and you're able to stand on your own." As they hugged me, I thought this was the last time I saw them.
"Monic, you need to hurry to the border. All those who are asymptomatic are ordered there. Eliza must be waiting for you there. Go quickly." Mom pushed me to stand up, stuffed a big bottled drink for me into the same backpack.
I couldn't help but cry, walking crying like a five-year-old would be separated from his parents.
"Sttt.don't cry anymore. You have to hurry okay. We love you, we love you. All right, you three have to hang on no matter what." I hugged Mom for a long time and didn't want to let her go, before Mom forced me to take it off.
"You gotta make it out sweetheart. We're okay." My dear father kissed my forehead one last time . The last tight hug, Mom and Dad hugged me while pushing me in the car. And I left with broken feelings and tears in my eyes.
Outside our house, there was already infected wandering around. The situation really deteriorated straight away this morning. The locked gate is the last defense of this house.
