THE BATTLEFIELD OF LOVE

THE BATTLEFIELD OF LOVE
Episode 33's. The Stand for Other (2)

"Is there anything else but last night..."

"The sweep of the outer fence around this area found five infected..."  He was silent before continuing.

"If there's an attack always remember what we taught you, backpacks, knives, guns." We were told to prepare backpacks filled with drinks, medicine, pistols and knives."

"I understand..."

"We will protect you wherever we can. Don't worry, this camp won't fall that easy anyway."

Three gunshots to the north were heard later.

"What is that..." Andrew and I looked at.

"Main control, any gunfire in the north zone?" Andrew spoke on the radio.

"There's an infected sight on the fence, it's been cleared." The report made me sigh in relief.

There was no sound then. We just stay there.

"I'm dealing with a woman whose husband died last night. If only we could find the infected first." I speak slowly. I understand how it feels to be abandoned by Dad. I think I'm that kid.

"It's a pity."

I thought about that woman. Is she okay. He complained of a fever this morning. Should I check it for a minute.

"So morning she complained of fever to me, I wanted to check on her... Can you accompany me to camp." Something says I should check it out.

"Come on."

We walked both towards the refugee camp, I looked for the tent, I remembered number two from the front. A woman came out of the tent just ten meters in front of me. He was holding a girl who was attached to him.

I remember the figure of the woman who seemed like the woman who walked out of the camp. I accelerated my steps to catch up with him. He seemed to be walking towards the empty field where we put the logistics tent.

"Daisy..." He did not look and continued to walk with his son. Andrew and I are running after him now.

She sat down in a tree trunk and hugged her son. I just saw him tie his handle to his son with a long scraft.  I achieved...

"Daisy, are you okay?" He turned to look at me.

"Nurse Jen,..." He sobs. I didn't see much in the dark until Andrew lit a flashlight and pointed it at him.

And it made me step back.

Neck's bleeding. The girl tried to bite him. And he didn't hold it...

"Davis, ... " I fully understand his request, because if I were in his position I would probably do the same.

"Nurse Jen, please help me..." Her tears trickled down her eyes and I knelt down in front of her, while she let her son hurt her.

"I need help at the refugee camp,..." Andrew spoke on the radio. Some people came quickly later and could only be stunned by what they saw.

"It's okay Jen, back off. Soldiers please shoot us at the same time." Andrew and the few people who saw it looked doubtful. But we all know we have no choice now. That's the only way to go.

"My dear. We'll see Dad in a minute. Be calm..." My heart was broken when I heard him calm his son who unknowingly continued to hurt him.

Andrew looked at one soldier.

"We do, I'm his mother. Clear single shot..." Andrew whispered softly. I couldn't see this, and turning my face the other way, Andrew counted slowly. My tears kept flowing as they approached Daisy and her son. In less than three seconds later their eruption solved everything.

"May you rest in peace..." Andrew said slowly. While others cannot talk either.

"Start cleaning." Some of the soldiers put on gloves and stuffed them in body bags.

I looked at it all with mixed feelings. This plague is why they exist, when can we wipe out this plague.

I walked away and sat down weak.

"Let's go back to the ward and rest, there's nothing you can do. It has to end that way. Tomorrow you're gonna have to get back on duty, help the others ..." Andrew took my hand and made me rise.

"Come, I'll accompany you to walk..." I stepped up with a careless, still carried away the sad feeling of seeing the tragedy earlier.

"She's a very good mother. He asked me for paracetamol and sleeping pills, that's for his son. She's not. He just wants to make his son comfortable..."

"All mothers will do their best for their children."

"Can't you move them to the nearest town. It's an unsecure operating area, and their safety will be jeopardized here..."

"We're short on personnel here, but I think women and children should be moved while men can help out here. I'll talk to the Commander tomorrow about this incident."

We walked in silence to the nurses' ward.

"It's close, you should rest too."

"alright. Don't be so sad." I smiled bitterly.

"Good night Andrew." I passed from before him.

Tonight was heavy. But behind all this suffering, there is a story of love without a mother's reply to her child. Even if she dies, she'll give herself up for her son. Because if his son is taken from him for whom else he fights for his life in this harsh world.
