"There were a dozen infected who were shot outside the fence last night. Maybe around here there's a bunch of infected. Camp is on standby 1 now. So you have to remember the evacuation route, your training, how to defend yourself..."
Andrew started having morning briefings with 8 nurses, and the doctor in shift 1 and reminded us of all the security procedures because he and six other people were responsible for the medical security of the personnel and the area of this emergency hospital.
"And you're Jen!" He pointed at me, everybody's eyes on me right now, and I don't understand why he's pointing at me."You forgot the security procedures?! Infected pursuit must be at least one person backup! Who told you to go after infected yourself last night!"
"I ..." I stammered as he stood in front of me. It must have been Susan who told DeAngelo and he heard it.
"Yes you! You know the risk you're taking?!"
"I'm wrong...Last night I just wanted to infected it didn't get any victims, yes I was wrong."
"You were lucky last night, once again you were wrong, your life could be at stake!" I kept quiet because his words were true.
"For others, you also have to remember not to be a hero of bad luck, you can be infected."
Last night there was only one victim. Thankfully, there were no other victims.
"Okay you guys can disperse. Remember what I said. And on standby 1, your command knife should always be within your reach. Your gun should be in one room with you two spare magazines always."
We started occupying our post, some refugees were already waiting for us to serve. Some complaints are mild and the rest is due to their depressed condition because they have to lose their temporary residence.
I saw a group of soldiers apparently parachuted out of the camp's safe area. Maybe they're checking around the camp area. Last night's attack was quite shocking.
"Jen, that woman..." Noah caught my attention. A woman, I remember the woman whose husband was bitten last night. I asked him to sit in front of me.
"What are your complaints, madam..."
"Nurse, you can give me paracetamol or ibuprofen. I'm feeling a little feverish..." I looked at him and sat in front of him.
"You have symptoms of diarrhea, nausea, headaches? Whose name is..." I checked his body temperature and blood pressure. Her blood pressure was a bit low, but it was normal because she had just lost her husband. His body temperature is normal.
"Daisy. No, maybe a little headache. But it's because I'm having trouble sleeping."
"I'm so sorry Daisy." He nodded little hearing my words.
"Tom's a very good husband. He made sure we got here safely, and he took everything. But it's okay, I don't know tomorrow either. Maybe tomorrow I'll catch up with him..." He's laughing a little. I was half shaken and half sad to hear his words. Something was thought of by me...
"Tom's blocking him from being bitten, he's accepting it for us." A tear dripping made me unable to bear to shed my tears as well and embrace her.
"You have to be strong for your son, you're all he's got now." He sniffled for a moment. I felt the burden.
"I know I'll be strong...Thank you nurse." She wiped her tears and tried to smile.
"Can you just prescribe me a one-dose sleeping pill. I really need a break." The logical request. Usually I can't give sleeping pills without a doctor's supervision, but for that woman I'll give it to her.
"Alright, I'll grant you your request. Waita minute..."
"Thank you. You're very kind..." I went to the medicine cabinet and brought him the medicine he asked for. She passed after saying thank you, somehow I felt something was wrong as she passed by somehow.
But there was the following patient who kept me busy again and didn't have time to think about the woman. Quite a lot came today, probably because the overnight situation made everyone worried. Although the infantry outside apparently no one was injured.
Heli Evac in the field there has been no evacuation after four days since the infantry plunged.
I sat outside our tent. Susan's probably talking to DeAngelo. And I was alone in a fallen tree, only to see the stars above me. Half of which I prayed somehow Fred also saw the same star as me.
"Why are you here alone..." I was shocked because I didn't hear him coming. These people may be overly trained to walk carefully without making a sound. He only wears a white T-shirt and long cargo pants. He's off duty like I seem. Even though he still carries a radio. His figure can always keep you glued for a moment.
"You're a surprise." I answered it briefly. He sits next to me.
"It's 10 o'clock, you guys start at 6. Not rested?"
"A little while."
"You're not mad I warned you this morning, are you?" He examined my expression.
"No, I know it's wrong. I don't want any casualties, that's all. I know your warning is correct."
"This area is not yet safe, we have just started 4 days, the zone targeted by new operations south and east. There may be a wave of attacks, although we should be able to handle, unless the attack is infected by thousands, it will be very troublesome."
"Is it possible to attack thousands?" Yesterday it was raided by hundreds of people, it felt like they were risking their lives, thousands are the scale where your life is at the end of the horn.
"Maybe, and this is a forest area. We can't see what's coming from a distance. Danger may be hidden behind the leaves in front of us. But the scouts have been scattered. So we can be prepared at least..." He made me shudder in horror.
